  1. I think Betts is a terrific ballplayer. Bradley and Castillo look like good ballplayers too, but to load up a team with little guys is a questionable strategy imo, especially since we don't have any major power sticks around the IF.
  2. I disagree that his bat plays anywhere. He needs to have some minimum level of proficiency. It is no accident that the team is playing much better with him on the sidelines. His fielding wrecked game after game.
  3. f*** Porcello. I have been researching for hours places that will ship beer to Mexico to pay my bet for my terribly misplaced trust in Porcello.
  4. Porcello stinking again.
  5. Compared to the enormous challenges on the pitching side, the offense is relatively a non-issue, but there is an issue at first . If Hanley can't hack it there, he has to be moved. I like Shaw, but not everyone is convinced that he is the answer. Sandoval against lefties is a huge issue. Who is the real Jackie Bradley-- the 2014 version or the August/September 2015 version. These are small issues compared to the wreckage that Ben left on the pitching side. It is not smoothe running machine that DD has inherited.
  6. I think you are probably right, although he could be a supplemental piece of a bigger package.
  7. That may be the way to go. Ortiz is 40 next season and our only legit power bat. I expect HanRam will be gone. I think it is good to have a big power bat to anchor a lineup.
  8. If he could be part of a package to bet us MattHarvey or a similar pitcher, even better.
  9. You don't win without pitching and Ben left DD with a total rebulid job -- both starting and bullpen. Edit: He also left him with a potential hole at first. Is Shaw really the answer? He left him with a long contract fat third baseman that can't hit lefties (OPS .478). They have one power hitter and he will turn 40 next season. There are no power sticks in the OF. There is plenty of work for DD to do.
  10. He was already out of the FO gig for 6 years before the affair scandal hit.
  11. ... and was replaced by the owners.
  12. If they want a power stick in their outfield, they will need to look at bigger players.
  13. GMs that do it don't get GM gigs again. Steve Phillips went to broadcasting, never to return to a FO. We will just have to disagree on this one.
  14. Once you are out of that environment, it is a lot harder to get back in. Whether he is good or bad at his job, he had to work like hell to get to that level. 41 year olds who are high achievers don't take a vacation. They just don't, or they get forgotten. LOL!!
  15. I am down a case of beer to iortiz on my Porcello bet. I would like to recoup my losses. Would you like to wage a case of beer that he gets another GM position? Edit: We are still in last place, and we just lost a series to the floundering O's How in the world does that look good?
  16. A He was Theo's coffee boy and gopher. I don't see him being offered anyone of the many open positions. I don't even read that he is being interviewed or under consideration. And if he can't land a spot this year with an unusually large number of job openings, his "vacation" will be a long one.
  17. I agree with this. Imo, Owens should get a spot only if he dominates in Spring Training or ER gets injured.
  18. If he decides to take a vacation, the other possibility would be that he is stupid. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt that he is not stupid.
  19. I think fangraphs and lots of other sources are very helpful tools for GMs and fans too. I just don't need them to tell me about my own team that I watch every day with few exceptions. They are very helpful for players on other teams.
  20. For which of these would Ben be a good candidate. Take a vacation? Seriously? That is the excuse for unemployed people.
  21. I didn't know where to post this, but I nominate Josh Johnson for the Mark Prior Career DL Achievement Award.
  22. There are so many GM jobs open that we should all submit resumes. LOL!! If Ben can't land one of the open spots, that will be very telling.
  23. He should be given the opportunity to win a rotation spot in Spring Training. Normally, I would only go with one kid in the rotation, and ER has the upperhand on that spot. Arguably, ER has logged enough innings to be viewed as an experienced starter and not at all a rookie. So, maybe I'd give Owens a shot to win a second spot, but he would have to be lights out. Otherwise, he is the first depth option from the minors. The rotation is overloaded with mediocrity and they need to move some of it. We can't bring back, Buch, Porcello, Miley, and Kelly. At least need to find new roles in the pen or be moved off the team. Two new quality arms are needed.
