  1. Yes, and he has not looked good, but that is not uncommon for Buch as he fine tunes his command.
  2. He's a depth option -- essentially 3rd string. Reports are that his shoulder is fine.
  3. Hanley, who has played 99 games at 3B.
  4. Also, Hanley could play 3B. He has played 99 games at 3B in his career.
  5. How many levels of depth do you want? You could say the same thing if Holt has to play second base every day if Pedroia gets hurt.
  6. We have sufficient depth with Holt if Shaw blows up or gets injured.
  7. He has trouble getting his balance to make throws on anything other than the most routine of plays. Again, my biggest problem with Sandoval is that his upside is just not great enough to wait for it. He was never that good. Hanley has huge upside with his bat and the guy can still run too. Pablo is just blocking younger better players imo.
  8. You are right. As a professional, he owed it to his employer and his team mates to come to camp in the best possible shape, especially in light of not earning his money last year. I agree that we will have to wait and see if he rebounds from last year, but are we supposed to be blind to the clear signs that he will not rebound. Are we supposed to ignore his atrocious fielding? Are we supposed to disregard his weight as a negative factor for his performance? No, that would be ridiculous.
  9. Farrell has no problem making plenty of wrong decisions without being on the hotseat.
  10. And of course your speculation is more valid than the speculation of others.
  11. No they are not very common. I have lived through way too many bad closers to realize that. Getting a high priced proven closer is one of the luxuries of being a big market team with a large payroll. We have no need to play the closer lottery.
  12. The guy can't move. It doesn't take a lot of repetitions to come to that conclusion. You only have to put a stop watch on a player once or twice to know if he has speed. You don't need to watch a guy a lot to make a judgment about his agility. I will say this in his favor. He moves well for a fat man. I think it is safe to assume that he would be more agile and quicker if he were 20 lbs lighter.
  13. I didn't say that I would send him down. I think we have plenty of flexibility to add another mid-rotation pitcher without creating a roster crunch. Elias having options is just additional flexibility.
  14. Poor Pablo. Sniff sniff.
  15. It is up to the FO, the manager and the coaching staff to give him a fair shot. If he proves himself to them, he will play. If he produces, the fans will be on his side. Sports is very fair like that.
  16. Apparently, the media cannot even write about him making errors or he gets upset. Sportswriters have to live with these guys for the next 6 months. I can understand their reluctance to write too much about his weight, although there is plenty out there about his weight. Fans of other teams know about the issue. I assume they are getting the information about the media. Also, they don't need to write about something that we can all clearly see.
  17. If Elias can be sent down, I am not seeing the possible roster crunch if we get another middle of the rotation pitcher.
  18. Elias is not a mid-rotation guy.
  19. or maybe the roster crunch is dealt with by moving one of the current pitchers in the transaction to get a pitcher.
  20. The statement coming from Farrell during Spring Training was startling and it definitely reveals a deep concern whether the team is better off with Sandoval. IMO, it is not. He came to camp without doing the appropriate preparation to play at a major league level. He looks like a hot pile of garbage in the field. His offense has been declining steadily. I think they need to cut their losses with him. I just don't see his upside being worth holding down Shaw and Travis. If Sandoval works his tail off and turns the clock back a couple of years, he was just not a great player. He was above average at best -- and that is his upside. I don't see the value waiting hand hoping for his upside. Better players are waiting in the wings. DD needs to move on from him. I doubt that Farrell's comments will have the desired effect of lighting a fire under Pablo.
  21. I am confident that Pablo will bounce this season.
  22. I wanted to see a thinner more athletic Pablo when I got to Fort Myers, but what I saw was a guy that was as heavy as he was at the end of last year, maybe bigger, who can't bend over, can't charge balls and throw on the run, and who waddles like a fat duck. I didn't want to see any of that, but that is the reality.
  23. How did he look to you on pop-ups?
  24. One of your favorite Conservatives also says it. LOL!!
  25. Good luck with it. I hope that you get a big settlement. You have suffered a lot and my recollection is that you could have been killed.
