  1. There is no reason except for a fan's eternal hope that comes every spring. There is no well-founded expectation that both of those things will happen.
  2. Kelly can pitch out of the pen. If he is pitching too well to send to the pen, that will be a nice problem to have. I wouldn't worry about the number crunch being a long lasting problem. The worst case scenario is that the numbers crunch will last until the end of June when Buch hits the DL.
  3. Both Wright and Elias can pitch out of the bullpen. There would be no reason to send Kelly down to the minors.
  4. Speaking for myself, I have made up my mind that PS's upside is just not worth waiting and hoping. He was never that good. With regard to his character, I make no judgment. Maybe he is a generous fun loving wonderful selfless individual, but that means nothing to me as a fan.
  5. UN, I got your league dues. Thanks.
  6. Apparently the Red Sox don't believe that report of his increased mobility either. I think the report attributed that remark to someone from Team Pablo. I don't think anyone reported that he has been moving better and looking more mobile.
  7. Reddick had one incredible Spring for us too, and then he went back to the minors and had a huge slump. Shaw did get some very good MLB experience last year.
  8. I saw him while I was in Fort Myers. I like the kid, and think that the initial projections for him may have under-rated him.
  9. Yes, and he has not looked good, but that is not uncommon for Buch as he fine tunes his command.
  10. He's a depth option -- essentially 3rd string. Reports are that his shoulder is fine.
  11. Hanley, who has played 99 games at 3B.
  12. Also, Hanley could play 3B. He has played 99 games at 3B in his career.
  13. How many levels of depth do you want? You could say the same thing if Holt has to play second base every day if Pedroia gets hurt.
  14. We have sufficient depth with Holt if Shaw blows up or gets injured.
  15. He has trouble getting his balance to make throws on anything other than the most routine of plays. Again, my biggest problem with Sandoval is that his upside is just not great enough to wait for it. He was never that good. Hanley has huge upside with his bat and the guy can still run too. Pablo is just blocking younger better players imo.
  16. You are right. As a professional, he owed it to his employer and his team mates to come to camp in the best possible shape, especially in light of not earning his money last year. I agree that we will have to wait and see if he rebounds from last year, but are we supposed to be blind to the clear signs that he will not rebound. Are we supposed to ignore his atrocious fielding? Are we supposed to disregard his weight as a negative factor for his performance? No, that would be ridiculous.
  17. Farrell has no problem making plenty of wrong decisions without being on the hotseat.
  18. And of course your speculation is more valid than the speculation of others.
  19. No they are not very common. I have lived through way too many bad closers to realize that. Getting a high priced proven closer is one of the luxuries of being a big market team with a large payroll. We have no need to play the closer lottery.
  20. The guy can't move. It doesn't take a lot of repetitions to come to that conclusion. You only have to put a stop watch on a player once or twice to know if he has speed. You don't need to watch a guy a lot to make a judgment about his agility. I will say this in his favor. He moves well for a fat man. I think it is safe to assume that he would be more agile and quicker if he were 20 lbs lighter.
  21. I didn't say that I would send him down. I think we have plenty of flexibility to add another mid-rotation pitcher without creating a roster crunch. Elias having options is just additional flexibility.
  22. Poor Pablo. Sniff sniff.
  23. It is up to the FO, the manager and the coaching staff to give him a fair shot. If he proves himself to them, he will play. If he produces, the fans will be on his side. Sports is very fair like that.
  24. Apparently, the media cannot even write about him making errors or he gets upset. Sportswriters have to live with these guys for the next 6 months. I can understand their reluctance to write too much about his weight, although there is plenty out there about his weight. Fans of other teams know about the issue. I assume they are getting the information about the media. Also, they don't need to write about something that we can all clearly see.
