  1. No transfer credits accepted. Edit: I will have to be mindful of maintaining my lead. LOL!
  2. LOL! I hope not. I also hope that we have some night owls in this new crew as I am often here posting until 2 in the morning and beyond.
  3. You are from the same era as a number of others on this board including me. Also, 50,000 + posts is impressive. That takes some commitment.
  4. I don't think that we could overstate the importance of ER and Smith coming back and producing at a high level.
  5. A change of approach 6 years into your career is probably not the easiest thing to do, especially when it seems to be abandoning his bread and butter "out pitch" -- his sinker. His last start he pitched very well while down in the zone. He never got hurt down in the zone. When he was up in the zone he overpowered a few hitters for k's, but then he got hurt with the HR ball. The only times that he got hurt was when he was up in the zone. Like I said in my edit to my last post, the final chapter is not written on his deal, but if he pitches this year like he did he did last year, we can call the time of death.
  6. I have acknowledged that. I still think that he was overpaid for a #4, and he has a considerable body of work (he is in his 7th full season) in which he has never been his team's #2. I see him topping out as a #3 type if things work out ideally. If he pitches like the solid #4 that his career indicates, he will be an asset to the rotation (albeit an overpaid asset). Last year was supposed to be the year that he took his game to a new level, and instead it slipped a couple of notches. The final chapter is not written on his deal, but if he pitches this year like he did he did last year, we can call the time of death.
  7. At some point well in advance of the contract running out, it becomes evident what you have acquired. You don't need it to run to conclusion. My point is that saying that a trade which turns out bad was a good trade when it was made doesn't make sense. Both sides think they have made a good deal when they walk away from the table. Otherwise, the trade doesn't get done. The proof is what happens on the field.
  8. Like benching Panda in favor of Shaw?
  9. He does have the opportunity to change minds about the deal, but whether a deal is smart cannot be accurately evaluated at the time it was made. Both teams think they made a good deal at the time of the deal. How the players play afterward is the only way to evaluate whether a trade was good or not.
  10. The only way to evaluate a deal is in hindsight.
  11. If we manage to find our way to the bottom of the division, it will not be because Price and Kimbrel had a tough 2 weeks in April. It will be because of the rest of the rotation and bullpen and Farrell.
  12. We have to give Farrell props for the correct in game move. Young is useless against RHP
  13. Pedey with a great relay on that play. He got rid of it so fast and Shaw made a very fast tag. Nice play by those two.
  14. Supposedly, picking up his option for $13 million was a no-brainer for half a season of work. To me, it was a waste of money and opportunity to go in a different direction.
  15. The Buch situation will solve itself by the end of June.
  16. Bring up Castillo. I think he is hitting in AAA.
  17. Shaw continues to make Panda irrelevant, except for the fact that that he is owed a ton of $.
  18. Thanks. It's all about fun and laughs for me.
  19. It looked like we had good Buch and then Bad Buch showed up. He had Rasmus looking helpless with 2 breaking balls, and then he gave him a happy zone ball for 4 runs. Damn!
  20. I haven't heard any rumors yet, but I agree that the rotation needs more of a shot in the arm than Owens. Maybe they are waiting to see how fast ER progresses. I would expect that to take another month to see what he can offer the rotation.
  21. He did have value regardless of any negative feelings he might have had. He was healthy and throwing well and he was under contract for the following year at the league minimum. He had tremendous value as a trade chip imo. Not only didn't they get anything of value in return. They took on extra payroll. It was a huge whiff by Ben, even if Lackey had started to walk around with a bucket of chicken under one arm while holding a six pack with his other hand.
  22. He is damaged goods. I guess that they might be keeping him because they would have to eat his whole contract if they parted ways with him now. They will probably let this play out a little longer to see if somehow he can rebuild a little value. I don't think that will happen. I agree with you. The handwriting is on the wall. Pablo has no future with the Red Sox organization.
  23. Hopefully, he gets back in the lineup soon. And he stays in the groove. For today,we get to watch Young face a RHP.
