  1. I could never stand Joe West. When Bogaerts pointed to the base, West should have told him that he was safe.
  2. Manny did that one time. He left the base to get his helmet without calling time out.
  3. What a crazy play. Bogaerts was safe and then he left the bag and was tagged out.
  4. It is very difficult to make the playoffs with a team ERA above 4. It has been very rare in recent years as the steroid age moves further into the past.
  5. Vintage Pedey thus far this year.
  6. Maybe Young will do something to justify his roster spot.
  7. Maybe just make a sandwich.
  8. And whether he slept on his arm, or picked up the morning newspaper with his pitching arm.
  9. This lineup is starting to remind me of the lineups in 2003-2005 in ihat it scores early and often and that the lineup is strong 1 through 9. I missed seeing this kind of offensive production. You never feel like you are out of a game. You can't ask for more as a fan. Last year, if we fell behind early, we were toast, and that offense wasn't bad either.
  10. Maybe it wasn't a no-brainer to pick up the option of a half year pitcher.
  11. I think Farrell leads all current major league managers in last place finishes. I wish we had a different manager, but it would not send a good message to the team to fire him at this time.
  12. I hope that you are right.
  13. LOL! I usually get one of the last picks. I prefer a middle pick in the draft. It keeps me more engaged. I hate having back to back picks and then waiting for 22 other picks to pass. Plus, I had a dilemma until the last instant between Harper and Trout and Kershaw.
  14. But Posey wasn't blocked by the Giants catcher of the future.
  15. Remember Cecchini? Third baseman of the future. He was a hot property, but he never could learn to field or hit at higher levels. It is the job of the FO to know which of their guys will make it and which will not.
  16. Yes, it is hindsight on my part. I don't deny that. The FO gets paid the big bucks to maximize asset value, and I think they can still get substantial value for him, but by this time next year his value will be less unless he simply tears up AAA.
  17. All TalkSox members are welcome. I recruited this year quite a bit. SK, we expect you to sign up for our league next season to show us what you've got.
  18. His progress behind the plate has been disappointing, and I think that the slow progress makes people think that his ceiling isn't very high defensively. In Spring Training 2015, his ceiling was thought to be higher, imo. The longer we hold him the more his value will diminish imo.
  19. How many teams are in your league?
  20. No one could block the plate like Varitek. I kept waiting for someone to take out his left leg and end his career, but that leg must have been made of concrete. I'll never forget the playoff game where Eric Brynes spun around after hitting his leg and missed home plate. Byrnes was limping around and cursing as Varitek chased down the ball and tagged him out on the way back to the dugout. I guess that aspect of Tek's game is outlawed today.
  21. It is to your credit that us old guys converse with you. It means that you are a thinking young man with something interesting to say and who behaves in a mature manner. I am sure that you can find other internet places predominated with young jackasses, but I am guessing geezerland is more interesting.
  22. And they will be getting a new ballpark.
  23. I remember that year very well. Yaz, uncharacteristically, did not hit his first home run until July 2nd I think. Also, Luis Tiant came out of the bullpen and back from the dead to become El Tiante as he rolled of an incredible string of CG shutouts. His ERA was 1.61 that season or somewhere around that. Also, that was Pudge Fisk's rookie year. It was a very exciting year that ended with a thud.
