No it isn't. It is an excuse, because other than stopping a play as it is occurring, there is plenty of time for a manager to make moves in a baseball game.

It was Farrell's job to limit the damage to 7 innings and 1 or 2 runs -- because he should have been removed after the single following the Home Run.

His explanation is hollow, because there was no chance of a shutout after the first pitch of the 8th inning. Two pitchers should have been warming after that pitch.

I think the treatment of anxiety "disorders" among ballplayer is something that has a high success rate without recurrence. I am more skeptical regarding whether he has MLB stuff and whether his arm can stay healthy. I think he will overcome this other issue.

Farrell should not have put himself in a position where the Cano represented the winning run. Also, as I stated before, he put the pen in a position where 1 or 2 productive outs and 1 base hit tie the game -- that is a very narrow margin of error for a bullpen that has not been very good.

i don't think anyone criticized Farrell for being too quick on the trigger in Price's last start. But last night, Farrell reacted way too slow. No visits to the mound. They didn't send the catcher out there to delay. Nothing. He just let it all unfold until the tying run was on base with no one out. He put the pen in a situation where one more hit and a couple of productive outs tie the game. That puts additional pressure on a substandard bullpen. Very poor game management at the end of the game. s*** does happen. In this case, it was Farrell.

It is simple --the ones who said that he did nothing wrong, are wrong. And his slow reaction to go to the pen is not limited to last night -- it has become a pattern.

I know of situations where Bears came into tents on Scout trips because there was food in duffel bags. And the bear got the duffel bag and ripped the s*** out of it.

When games get into the 8th and 9th innings of close games, it is pretty standard to get the bullpen ready to go to lock down the game. Once the home run was hit, it was a 3 run game. Price was over 90 pitches. He wasn't going to get a complete game at that rate. We were going to need a pitcher in the 9th. A couple of guys should have been tossing in the 8th to get ready. After the first hit after the HR, there should have been a visit to the mound by Willis. Then Leon should have had one or 2 conferences with Price. There are ways to get your pen some time to warm up. Farrell gets paid handsomely not to mess up those late innings. The notion that the Mariners offense happened too quickly for Farrell to react is nonsense. Giving him an excuse is not sensible.

Pitchers tend to lose it suddenly late in the game, and Price got hit on the leg with a hard drive 2 innings before. That could have been swelling or getting stiff. Farrell got caught with his pants down. He wasn't prepared.

It is the 8th inning. Guys should have been stretching, and someone should have been throwing after the Home Run. If not then, he should have visited the mound after the next batter. He gets paid to manage games and lock them down. There is no excuse for Farrell waiting so long.
