  1. The kid can hit lefties too. But of course he will be back on the bench against the next lefty starter.
  2. LOL!! I really don't care, but people tell me that managers really don't affect on-field performance, the outcome of games or the season. I maintain that they must be hired to do something if they get paid so much money. I am making the argument that they are being paid to maximize the output and record of the team. For that reason, they are subject to criticism, because many times it is their fault. If they are just there to push buttons that don't matter and the lineup doesn't matter and pitching changes don't matter, then you don't need a manager. If that was the way it is, some owner would have figured out that there was a potential to save on salary. A lot of times you have trouble following things, Bells.
  3. I think we need to hire a body language expert to tell Farrell when a pitcher is toast.
  4. That is fine, but his first name is David not "$210 million for"
  5. The little guy is looking like a good hitter.
  6. Most of that stuff is taken on by the coaching staff. I am not convinced about the importance of the off-field stuff. The players know how to play the game already. Any additional work that they need is done with the coaches not the manager. Managing egos? PR? Do we need a multi million dollar baseball man for these tasks? Hire a motivational speaker and a press secretary. Most teams already have a press secretary and many teams bring in motivational speakers during the season.
  7. Oh the $210 million man, $200 million dollars -- need to get more from him for that money!!! Who the hell watches games like that? Get over the money. They all make a ton.
  8. Corrected to reflect the truth.
  9. I am not concerned about our offense. Unfortunately, offense throughout a season never stays at consistently high level. There will be slumps. The dog days of August are famous for slumps. Guys start to wear down. The long season and the heat start to take a toll. However, our offense is the biggest run producing offense by a wide margin up to this point of the season, and I expect that they will remain in the top spot although the gap with the second place team might close. Our pitching has been worse than league average. That is what continues to concern me. Making the playoff with a 4.26 ERA today is very difficult. Our hitting can't do better than being the best. There is plenty of room for improvement by our pitching. If we don't make the post season, it will be because our pitching has been atrocious over the course of a full season. They have managed to lose several games where the offense put up 8, 9 or 10 runs.
  10. Rumors are that it is the end for him with the Yankees. Maybe they are buying out his last season.
  11. We don't want him to suffer a setback like Bradley did by getting thrown into the full time role. There is no reason to throw him into the fire. He will learn an advance his development almost as quickly playing part time. Just being around guys like Ortiz and Pedroia will teach him how to prepare and approach the game. If he keeps his ears and eyes open, e will learn more from this part time experience thanhe would get from regular reps at AA or AAA.

  13. He has only had problems on rainy or humid nights. LA weather is perfect for him.
  14. They could modify the trade or rescind it.
  15. What off the field stuff are you referring to that is an important role(s) of a manager that adds value or affects team performance?
  16. It isn't easily quantifiable, and over a course of the season, it probably doesn't amount to much, but they either have an effect on the team performance or record and should be subject to criticism and accountability or they are just irrelevant. I think they have an effect on a team. I also don't think much of the overall quality of managers, but I also don't think much of the overall quality of the umpires either. But then again, they can be replaced by machines. LOL!
  17. I am confused. Is a manager very important or not important at all? They can't be indispensable if their game management means nothing and has little effect on games or the season.
  18. Maybe I broke the needle on his sarcasm meter.
