  1. Ben was the GM. He doesn't get credit for the good stuff and get a pass for the bad stuff.
  2. It's a political issue put forth mainly by white people who have made being offended into an industry.
  3. To a very large part of the country, the term Yankee is offensive. People need to get over it. It is a logo. It is meant to be a caricature. There are all sorts of caricatures used as logos for teams etc. Those offended by the Indian logos should not go to or watch their games. Millions enjoy the teams' logo and heritage. They should be able to keep it.
  4. Please. In history, the Guardians got screwed over. The logo is the least of the indignities that they have suffered. Move on. BTW, do any Guardians actually wear headdresses etc. anymore? I don't think so, and the decedents of the Pilgrims are not walking around with hats with buckles on them. but people still dress up like that as a goof. It is a stupid sports logo. It is part of the team's history and tradition. A few offended people need to get a grip.
  5. Yep. This organization has been horrible at scouting, drafting and developing starting pitching. There are no excuses. The "we haven't had enough high draft picks" argument doesn't hold water.
  6. He was atrocious at building a pitching staff, but he was very effective at deconstructing a pitching staff. I am happy that he will be bringing his magic to Toronto.
  7. Ben is with Toronto as a gopher for the real GM. He is the enemy now. I hope he does the same bang up job on their pitching staff that he did with ours.
  8. WTH is Dave Roberts thinking about by continuing to go to Fat Joey Blanton in big spots? Dope.
  9. Thanks for sharing those memories.
  10. Edit. Got it right. I would have guessed Cronin but Doji said that it wasn't Cronin. I also read every one of Teddy Ballgames books and every other Red Sox history book when I was a kid so I learned about Doerr, Pesky, and then Stephens, Parnell, Jackie Jensen, Piersall, and Bill Goodman and on and on.
  11. I am guessing Vern Stephens.
  12. The rationale doesn't absolve them from the judgment that it was a lousy move. There is always a rationale, even for lousy moves, but the rationale isn't an excuse.
  13. Did you see Foxx play. I assume that you did, because you saw Lefty Grove. What is your opinion of him iin comparison to the greats of his day and afterward. Based on what I have read about him and his stats, it seems that he was on another level from most but a few very elite hitters.
  14. They aren't just picking names from a hat. Hopefully they have good reasons for every move.
  15. I have been pretty consistent throughout. To those who keep diminishing HFA in an attempt to convince people that it is non-existent, I have consistently replied that it is an advantage under any measure or statistic. Apparently some people cannot handle anything beyond an expression of complete agreement
  16. Those people don't count. They are always bitching about something.
  17. Farrell took a beating for being Farrell, and it my recollection thethe people who were most critical of him in that final week were worried that the team was getting flat and playing losing ball. HFA was not a big part of it. Tell me who on TalkSox made a big deal of the HFA and dumped on Farrell for it.
  18. I can't think of anyone that made that argument. I asked for names, and got no answers except I was told that I said it "but not in so many words." That was totally inaccurate. There were several people who have attempted to quantify HFA so as to be so small as to be nonexistent. I have seen no stat or stats that have concluded that HFA is not an advantage. This apparently has people's underwear in a bunch so they overstate the position of those who say that it is an advantage under every and any measure so they can tilt at windmills.
  19. That's all you got?
  20. He can watch from Toronto. The 2014 and especially the 2015 Red Sox teams were bad teams that were poorly constructed. Some unexpected bad performances may keep you from the playoffs, but you are simply bad when you thud into last place like those 2 Red Sox teams.
  21. Don't put words in my mouth. I said no such thing about getting HFA at the expense of other advantages. Not at all. You and a few others do a lot of tilting at windmills.
  22. But no one said anything different.
