  1. I am extremely hopeful for 2017 and the next several years, and I will assess 2021-2025 as it starts to come into clearer focus. Right now, it is too distant to for anyone to reliably project success or doom for 2021 - 2025.
  2. I have never seen anyone so miserable about the team's prospects when it is loaded with premium talent, because of the prospect that in 5 or 10 years, we might have a down cycle, especially since we just came out of a cycle where we finished last in 3 out of 4 seasons. That was miserable.
  3. I think it would be more appropriately likened to Obama's promise of "shovel ready" jobs.
  4. He is spending his time helping ruin the competitiveness of the Blue Jays. Maybe you should follow him on Twitter.
  5. That is a pessimistic outlook, especially since you don't know what the organization's plans are to replenish the farm system with prospects, and from what I understand we still have some pretty good prospects.
  6. "Speculative Nonsense" -- that sums it up very well.
  7. DD would have the option of an outright release.
  8. He might give his consent if he is told that he will be riding the bench.
  9. Only if he has a no-trade clause.
  10. I think he will get him if that is his price. Moreland will be sent packing.
  11. Every day that EE remains unsigned, I think it becomes more likely Wheeler Dealer Dave finds a way to get him on the Red Sox.
  12. whether or not the Guardians are interested, if the length of deals being offered to EE are 3 years or shorter, DD should make the move.
  13. The Kimbrel trade destroyed a 10 year run of competitiveness? Is that what you are saying?
  14. Talk is that deal Guardians are offering for EE could be for as little as 1 or 2 years. If that is the case, DD should swoop in and scoop him up.
  15. Tazawa signed by Marlins-- 2 years/$12 million
  16. Usually a bag of balls.
  17. Or we can trade a player to the Rockies to get Rutledge off Rule V and we can option him to the minor leagues.
  18. Or they could trade a player for him.
  19. I would only worry about keeping the highest quality scouts. As to the rest of FO personnel, Jos A. Bank is always running BOGO sales on suits (2 for the price of 1). There is no shortage of mediocre business types, and they are all pretty much mediocre.
  20. 2014 was not the result of having stripped the farm system without concern for the future, nor was 2015. Those years were just about very poor roster construction.
  21. A 4 year contract would bring him "significantly" past his prime. I don't agree with that.
  22. What don't you like about EE? He's not Ortiz, but he does have some consistently excellent numbers.
  23. To accuse a Red Sox fan of 50 years who didn't see a Championship until age 45 of engaging in instant gratification is just preposterous. Let's just say that DD will have a challenge to restock the farm, but we don't know how these moves will affect the future and whether the future is on a downward trajectory, there is no certainty in that regard, because we don't know what DD will do to restock the farm. There is a challenge for him in this regard, but he has time. What we do know for certain is that the 2017 team is stocked with talent which we will be able to enjoy in about 3 months. That is not instant gratification. It is just the present.
