I read your words, and i disagree with them. You referred to Price and his $30 million annual salary without any other context in the post. I don't think that $30 will go a long way toward replacing an ace starter, a closer and another need. I think you would be lucky to get an ace starter for the $30 million, never mind two other needs.

Yep, enough is enough. Arguing over which overpaid substandard businessman did a better or worse job can bore one to tears. There has been plenty of good news for the Red Sox this offseason. Getting Sale in a trade is one of those blockbusters that you see once in a decade or more for the Red Sox and people are still bitching and moaning.

I predict that we will get nothing out of Kendrick. He was once mediocre, but no longer. He is shot.

This was a separate crash from the one that took the life of Andy Marte in the Dominican on Sunday. Ventura was 25 years old. Tragically, Ventura is the second major league pitcher who has died over the past five months. Former Marlins ace Jose Fernandez passed away after a boating accident on Sept. 25. Like Fernandez, Ventura was an exceptional, hard-throwing talent who emerged as a key long-term building block for his franchise. Ventura signed with the Royals for a meager $28K as an international free agent in 2008. After climbing up the minor league ladder, Ventura ranked as Baseball America’s 26th-best prospect at the conclusion of the 2013 campaign. He debuted in the majors that year and then became a full-time big leaguer in 2014. Ventura was a standout as a rookie, as he pitched to a 3.20 ERA over 183 innings to help the Royals clinch their first playoff berth since 1985. His top performance that postseason came under awful circumstances in Kansas City’s in a Game 6 victory over the Giants in the World Series. After learning two days earlier that his friend, fellow Dominican and former Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras died (also in a car crash), Ventura fired seven shutout innings and surrendered just three hits to force a Game 7. The Royals went on to lose the series, but they returned to the Fall Classic in 2015 to defeat the Mets and end a 30-year championship drought. Prior to the 2015 campaign, Ventura inked a five-year, $23MM extension with the Royals that could have been worth $45MM and kept him with the team through the 2021 season.

We have no idea which players from that era were clean. At one time, all of baseball was rooting for ARod to break the home run records, because they thought he had done things "the right way" until he got caught.

Clemens had a lousy post season track record while he was with the Red Sox IIRC, but he did significantly better as Yankee and as an Astro in the post season. I think that Price can still turn things around in the post season.

Buchholz may be the biggest disappointment coming out of the Red Sox system in my memory. He pitches a no-hitter in his second start and the sky was the limit, and he hasn't come close to reaching his potential. He had ace stuff.

And as I pointed out, the latter of those 2 very good seasons was 2011. Five seasons have passed since then. I don't expect him to turn back the clock 5 years.

That is a very low threshold for a monster season.

Muser was a slick fielder. I think we got Romo with Siebert in the Hawk Harrelson deal.

I think Duane Josephson's career was cut short by a heart issue IIRC. Also, I think we got him in the Gary Peters deal. I had big hopes for him adding big offense.

Monty never wore a batting helmet. He was a good backup with a decent stick. Gerry Moses, the organization built him up as a big prospect.

Not an impressive list at all. I have to agree with MVP to stay away from any pitcher that has had this surgery.

Fisk was up only for a cup of coffee in 1971. He really wasn't part of that team.
