  1. Preferably before tonight's start.
  2. Lars Anderson -- the once untouchable prospect.
  3. Dumb Dumb needs a hitter. Wake up!
  4. I am glad that you could relate to the humor. I guess that the notion of applying for working papers is lost on millennials. LOL!
  5. Farrell= tits on a Bull
  6. But how many additional inches of the plate have those pitches covered? That is how the hitter is helped. A fastball on the outside corner is less helpful than a "get me over" breaking pitch that hangs like a piñata waiting to be crushed. Also, how many more strikes over the middle did those guys see early in counts. What was the the average velocity of the pitches they saw last year compared to this year? Pitchers were expending a lot of energy trying to get Ortiz out. And there are more questions that would have to be asked and answered if you are going to definitively disprove that Ortiz helped the performance of the rest of the lineup. Stats studying the issue in general would not have any validity. It would have to be a comprehensive statiscal study of David Ortiz and the Red Sox.
  7. We should still be paying him on Commission less charge backs for Pablo, Rusney and Craig.
  8. It was a terrible miscalculation by DD. It was an obvious move and he would have truly been the final piece of the puzzle. Instead, he filled one hole with Sale and created another hole losing Ortiz.
  9. My nephew is 15 and can hit 90 (sits at 84-5). There is a whole crop of these kids in Cary, NC this week ready to take Nogosek's spot in a few years. There is no need for handwringing over any of these guy. None of them are once in a decade or generation talents. At this point, their best value is as trade chips.
  10. They are the types that would have complain about getting anyone, because they can't bear to part with any prospects-- 80% of whom will never play an inning in the majors and maybe 5% will someday perform above replacement level.
  11. He was injured before the trade, but our team doctors -- Doctor Quackenbush cleared him after a thourough physical which was comprised of Reed closing his eyes and touching his nose with the forefinger of his left and right hands. And then to leave no stone unturned, Dr. Quackenbush cupped Reed's testicles and asked him to turn his head and cough. He has been cleared to play and he will get his official working papers for the state of Massachusetts.
  12. But we are both believing it, because it is obviously true. LOL!
  13. That's right. After 1967, the Red Sox did not have a season where they were under .500 for 17 seasons and the finished under .500 twice in 25 seasons. So, I will never give the organization an ataboy for a 78 win season, especially on the heels of 2 other last place finishes in 3 years. That was a horrible stretch where a lot of people lost interest in the team. I do feel that the team has not regained the fan enthusiasm it once had due to that horrible stretch.
  14. That team was on pace to lose 91 games before Farrell's cancer diagnosis and Lovullo taking over the squad. They really responded to Lovullo, but don't let that record fool you. The 2015 Red Sox were celler dwellers. After bouncing back and forth between 4th place and last place, they hit last place on June 9th and stayed there for good except for 7 days under Lovullo. The season was dead before the All Star break. .
  15. The Cubs are finalizing a deal to acquire two more pieces for the stretch run. If the swap is finalized, both southpaw reliever Justin Wilson and catcher Alex Avilawill reportedly head from the Tigers to Chicago in exchange for infielder Jeimer Candelario and young shortstop Isaac Paredes, along with cash or a player to be named later.
  16. There are only so many pitches in a game where a pitcher can reach down for something extra. Most of the time, those pitches were reserved for Ortiz. Also, they didn't want to walk people in front of him, so pitchers were more likely to catch more of the plate when pitching to the hitters in front of Ortiz. A hitter like Ortiz changes the dynamics of how a pitcher approaches the rest of the lineup and he made the rest of the lineup better.
  17. Did I miss something? Who on TalkSox is pushing to get Sonny Gray? The only plus to getting him would be blocking the Yankees from getting him. While he wouldn't solve the problems of our offense, it would keep the Yankees from improving their starting pitching.
  18. You can post a book every day extolling the virtues of Ben. It will not put a dent in my opinion that his tenure and team building was horrible.
  19. We will see. The bar has been set very low by Ben.
  20. The metrics are dead wrong if they have Benintendi as a better LFer than Gardner. Gardner takes better routes to balls and makes much better decisions once he get to the ball. Benintendi has made a lot of face palm stupid plays out there that high schoolers wouldn't make. I don't know if the metrics measure poor decisions, but Benitendi is way ahead of Gardner in that category. This is not an opinion influenced by bias as I despise Gardner more than any other Yankee. He is the Yankee who I would punch in the face if a brawl broke out. Maybe Benintendi will improve, but for every excellent play he makes he cancels that by pulling a rock.
  21. He wasn't responsible for 2012 and neither was Theo. 2014 was a fluke and 2015 was ....an enigma? After a while the excuses ring hollow.
  22. I think that Ben was a terrible GM overall. It will not be hard for DD to top him imo.
  23. All in all a terrible record when you add in Pablo, Hanley, Rusney, and Craig. And re-signing Napoli for 2 years negated the value of the good 1 year deal.
