he should have tried to get his attention and in a worst case scenario, he should have caught his attention half way to 3rd. By that time, yes, he is toast, but you have to try. The throw back into the infield could get away. Maybe he catches his attention as he turns second and Bradley can slam on the brakes and get back to first base. It is his job to get his attention when the guy is making a mistake.

So when a guy pulls a rock, the coaches should just put their hands in their pockets? I get that it is Bradley's fault, but Butternut never got his attention. He didn't do his job either.

Was there any waving and yelling by the base coaches? How could Butterball not get his attention before he hit 3rd base? Dereliction.

And that's why statistics are good for confirming an opinion. You can almost always find a lot of data that will support it. It goes back to Bin Scully's great line about using statistics the way a drunk uses a lamppost for support and not illumination.

The next 3 weeks are a make it or break it stretch. It would be nice to have Pedey and Hanley healthy so that the offense can hit on all cylinders. The September Schedule is quite a bit easier except for finishing up with 4 games against the Astros.

I think the remainder of our schedule is tougher this year than last year. We play the Yankees 10 times in the next 3 weeks and they are only 2 games behind us in the loss column. We still have 5 games against the Guardians and we wrap up the season with 4 games against Houston. If we hold serve with the Yankees in the upcoming 10 games, we should be okay for the division, but this race can change drastically in the next 3 weeks.

Unbelievably stupid base running. That play was in front of Young and the third base coach should have been screaming for him to hold two and get back.

"Rising fastball" is a term to describe a certain type of pitch. It is not being taught in physics class, although discussing whether a thrown ball can rise is an interesting topic for a physics class. For a baseball message board, it is nerdier than anything Alex Speier writes or talks about. The "rising fastball" goes over their bats because they expect the ball to be lower when it reaches them. It is a good descriptive term for the game. Argumentative people will argue about all sorts of irrelevancies.

The harder a ball is thrown and with more spin the effect of gravity will have less time and effect to make the ball dip. Since the ball is dipping less than the majority of pitches with less velocity or spin, the eye is tricked into thinking the ball is rising. When you are standing at the plate, it sure looks like it is rising, but that would defy physics. But then again, there had been scientific studies that curve balls were an illusion.

Day games are great but night games even in July are colder than November football games in the Northeast.

What strategy? The strategy isn't to put the batter on base in front of the hitter behind them. The result is just part of the dynamics of the game.
