  1. I haven't seen his ABs this spring, but last year he seemed to have problem with pitch recognition. I attributed some of that to the loss of Papi. He schooled the others about the tendencies of pitchers and what they like to throw in certain circumstances. Papi was a master at that.
  2. Do they have enough payroll left to sign Arrieta?
  3. That is probably a reason why they didn't resign Adrian Beltre.
  4. Showalter never brings a single starter to Fort Meyers, year in and year out. That stinks for the fans. The gentlemen's agreement is to bring 2-3 starters on the road. I don't understand why no one has called out that smog prick, Showalter.
  5. I am hopeful that last years problems were due to the bad wrists. I expect marginal improvement by him and better power numbers in 2018, but I don't expect a break out season.
  6. He did fine with the slider when he is in slap mode -- which is a strange looking swing an much different from his power stroke. It is not just an adjustment with his wrists. I his case it is a hitch. My recollection is that U.N. also noticed it and found it odd. So, yes he can be successful with the slider if he is happy being a .280 slap hitter. if he is looking to hit for power, he will have trouble with the slider.
  7. Agreed, but in years when he has been healthy he has also been very inconsistent shifting between the slapping to RF hitch swing and a smoother power stroke That is why I am concerned.
  8. I am hoping that it was just an injury issue.
  9. I thought about that too. It could really dampen the offensive numbers.
  10. Once pitchers realize that he has a huge hole with sliders, that is all he will see. His defense is to hitch his swing and slap the ball toward RF which eliminates his power.
  11. i don’t think his inconsistency has been injury related. I think he has a huge hole when it comes to the slider. I hope that I am wrong.
  12. I think we have 5/6 very good hitters: Betts, Benitendi, Devers, J.D., and Hanley and Pedey when healthy. They should occupy the top 6 slots.
  13. That is true.
  14. Of course, but the best hitters need to be bunched together.
  15. I was not referring to those instances. I was referring to instances when all the facts are known that the manager still makes the foolish move -- and that is without regard to whether the outcome is good.
  16. Bunching the best hitters together is the ideal lineup.
  17. The best lineup has the best hitters bunched together. Lengthening a lineup by for instance batting an inferior batter second because he is adept at hitting behind runners doesn't improve the production of the lineup. It reduces productivity imo.
  18. And despite all the additional information at their disposal, they still manage to screw up very often.
  19. The notion of lengthening the lineup as an effective construction is absurd.
  20. Feb. 22: An announcement [re: JD Martinez] will not take place today, the team told reporters including Rob Bradford of WEEI.com (via Twitter). It seems the physical is still yet to be completed.
  21. I thought that would have been bizarre. An .829 career OPS guy at age 27 had to have some value besides a straight out salary dump.
  22. A700 is right again. Challenge him at your peril. LOL!! Pirates Acquire Corey Dickerson From Rays By Steve Adams | February 22, 2018 at 1:17pm CDT 1:17pm: The Pirates are sending the Rays $1MM as part of the trade, reports Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic (TwiTE]tter link). In essence, then, they’ll spend an additional $1.45MM to turn Hudson into Dickerson, while the Rays will add a reliever to their ’pen, a prospect to the lower levels of their farm system, and trim $1.45MM from their 2018 payroll.
  23. But he was right that Nava could hit MLB pitching.
  24. I feel bad for the Northeastern pitcher. He's a freshman and he looks like he is going to have a heart attack. He walked all 5 batters that he faced.
  25. Thanks. Watching. Retirement is good.
