I guess the FO is concerned about being buried in paperwork if they leave these Dollar Store acquisitions until later in the offseason when we are making consequential signings. An acquisition like this could distract Bloom from deciding whether to pursue Bogey, Swanson or Correa.
Is he an upgrade? You can find plenty of guys on the side of the road in Florida at the end of March as good as him who are looking to hitch a ride north.
Are you asking what is his worth on the open market or what can the Red Sox afford to pay him in the context of their budget, including Henry’s other bad investments?
Any projected rotation that includes Paxton is not realistic imo. Paxton triggered his paltry $4 million option, imo, because he knows that he is finished. If he was healthy and his stuff was not terribly diminished, he would have held some showcases and done better than the $4 million option.
Maybe you weren’t around for 2007, but I liked the off-season before 2007. I also liked the off seasons when we got Sale, Price and J.D. Is that sad? That’s at least 4 off seasons, off the top of my head, that I liked.
Has anyone mentioned that the Red Sox released Franchy Cordero and all of his skills and athleticism? Now we have Winkowski (the league leader in hard hit balls) in return for Benintendi.
Off the top of my head, the Red Sox ,at a minimum, need:
2 starting pitchers
1 Shortstop
1 Corner OFer
1 Power bat (could be the Corner OFer)
1 closer (Committee never works and the 9th inning is different)
This is the bare minimum needed to compete in the Division.
