    You will see Sale pitch into the 6 th inning again this season. I’ll guarantee that. I’ll also guarantee that you will not see Scott start the 8th inning again with a 1 run lead when Barnes/Kelly are available. Even Cora knows it was a bad decision.

    It was idiocy putting Scott in a high leverage situation like that in his first game of the year in the bigs when the 8th inning guy was available to start the inning. He got cute, hopping not to have to use Kelly, and he got burned twice. He lost the game and he burned Kelly anyway. Edit: It will be obvious that it was a mistake, because Core will not use Scott or any other bullpen pig in a 1 run game in the 8th inning when the high leverage guys are available.

    Should Dave pick up Melky Cabrera and try to catch lightning in a bottle? He has been brutal this season, but he has had some very good seasons with the bat. Edit: And as brutal as he has been, he is still OPSing 100+ points more than Swihart.

    I wouldn't have used him in that instance unless he desperately needed the work. I am sure that cora didn't want it to turn into a 30+ pitch outing. When a guy like Kimbrel needs work in 4+ run differential game, because rust is setting in, I would let the leave the previous pitcher in the game until he gets 1 out and bring in Kimbrel to get the final 2 outs. They should limit the possibility of running up 30+ pitches in a low leverage situation.

    My recollection is that he is a terrible bunter.

    And he is still a better hitter than our 2 catchers, Swihart and Bradley. There was no reason to keep Swihart who can't play a position or hit. And he has no long term role on this team. in retrospect, the correct move was to DFA Swihart and try to get something back in a trade and then to DFA Hanley when Pedroia returns.

    Each of us has our way of dealing with the negative emotions of losing. Most people blame some combination of the players, coaches, manager or umpires. You on the other hand can always be counted on to insult TalkSox members. I hope you feel better.
