  1. we only know that he got fired. Someone thought he was doing a bad job. He wasn’t an unlikeable guy, and he had certain talents. His time had run out. If he had finished 3rd with his $200 million payrolls in 2 of those last place years, he is probably still here. I think the owners couldn’t fathom consistently finishing last with one of the highest payrolls in baseball. That is a tough act to duplicate.
  2. i don’t even know how to answer that hypothetical question. Would there be any other option to waiting for them to develop? I would certainly be open to trading them if they were putting up those numbers for us.
  3. In my experience, working for the guy with the additional pressure never lessened my stress. The shot rolls downhill. Plus, how much pressure is on the GM in Toronto?
  4. Don’t we have Brandon Phillips for second base?
  5. The only thing that I would add to your two posts is that Ben also had no eye for identifying pitching prospects. When he left, the pitching at the MLB level was a train wreck and we had no talent in the pipeline at the minor league levels. People will point to Kopech or Espinosa, but 2 prospects is nothing to squawk about. Most pitchers don’t make it. You need much more depth in pitching. Espinosa was a child at the lower levels of the minors. Even without his injury, we would still be waiting for him for 2 years at minimum. Ben has been gone for 3 years already. Kopech is likely a bullpen guy. Our pitching was just awful throughout the organization, and i am still a firm believer that good pitching is the most important ingredient of winning. Ben had no clue on pitching.
  6. it was incongruous that he could finish last with those payrolls and DDvis still carrying a good deal of those salaries. Take away Panda’s and Hanley’s salaries and where are we?
  7. Sure, who wouldn’t want an additional boss.
  8. If Margot and Moncada were here instead of Benintendi and Devers, we wouldn’t be in first place, and I would probably be really upset that they let Benintendi go and in a years or less Obwould be upset about Devers leaving too.
  9. i have no problem with JD in the OF. I just don’t want him to get worn down as his bat is just too important.
  10. The only reason why the 25th spot carries any importance, because benches are very short in today's game.
  11. I don't know about his leadership, but he is a potent bat against left handed pitching, and we needed that.
  12. Those are not building blocks unless you are building a trash heap.
  13. Those were awful summers. We were out of the race, by the time Memorial Day rolled around. We were not in contention for any portion of those summers.
  14. And he didn't trade Benintendi or Devers.
  15. f*** the Yankees. They will fear us unless they are stupid.
  16. I will be going to the Met doubleheader today. I love 2 games for 1 admission. Those are rarer than seeing a bald eagle in the wild. Is there anyone for whom you want a scouting report? The fans in the stands will know. There will only be hardcore baseball fans at the Mets games from here on out. They suck balls. The pink hats have all migrated to Yankee stadium. Edit: The fans in the upper deck will be able to tell me how often a pitcher goes to his hat and after a certain number of times it will indicate that his toast. No fangraphs needed. I'll be sitting with human fangraphs.
  17. Some feel that DD depleted a farm system that he didn’t build. It’s not exactly like our former farm hands are lighting up MLB. In the meantime we are into our 3rd year of an All Star closer and our 2nd year of an Ace All Star starter. That isn’t depletion. That is maximizing assets. He kept Benintendi, and Devers. He kept the right guys.
  18. I think that most teams would have cut bait with Swihart already, but the organization likes him. I was talking to my Fenway ticket host and he was telling me after Hanley was released that they love Swihart’s athleticism and think he will succeed. No one has an answer as to what his future role will be.
  19. Ball-Mart pitchers have a short expiration date before they are tossed in the Dumpster.
  20. Damn that Dave! He picked us up out of the abyss only to point us straight at a cliff.
  21. But he drove away Theo? And is he the reason why Ben finished last 3 of 4 seasons? Last time that I looked, Ben is into his 3rd year since being replaced and no one will trust him with a payroll.
  22. Maybe they just don’t have the talent to succeed. It’s not like the league is stocked with good pitchers from the Red Sox farm. You can’t develop a pitcher if you suck at drafting pitching talent.
  23. My thinking is about the same. The best thing that can happen for him is that he does well over the next few weeks and some other team notices and gives him a chance.
  24. I think you have a soft spot for him. My recollection was that he was very raw as a catcher. And since his injury, there haven’t been any good reports about his development at catcher. I am hoping that he does well, but once Vasquez comes back, do you see a long term prospect for him at catcher with the Red Sox? If they don’t plan on him becoming the starting catcher, they should build his trade value and move him.
