  1. And he will soon resort to the pitcher that he was with the Pirates.
  2. He went ballistic over Nunez bunting. That overreaction should have clued the league in that he is completely incapable of fielding his position. Alas, baseball players and coaches aren't very smart, but sooner or later they will catch on.
  3. Will opposing batters start getting wise and start bunting on CC? He didn't have a single putout at first-base last year. He is completely incapable of fielding his position. It is time for the hitters to retire him.
  4. Red Sox To Re-Sign Eovaldi December 6th, 2018 at 8:53am CST • By Jeff Todd The Red Sox have struck a deal to bring back righty Nathan Eovaldi, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). Terms of the agreement, which is pending a physical, have yet to be reported. This was a match that MLBTR predicted in its listing of the top fifty MLB free agents. Frankly, that was one of the easier situations to predict, given Eovaldi’s stirring run for the World Series champs. Both the upside and the uncertainty that come with Eovaldi’s flamethrowing right arm are well-known. Having witnessed him up close for several months, concluding with a trial by fire on the game’s biggest stage, the Boston organization was well-placed to decide whether Eovaldi is worth the risk. That’s not to say there weren’t other pursuers. Ultimately, the Astros, Phillies, Yankees, Brewers, Braves, Angels, White Sox, Blue Jays, Giants and Padres all reportedly had some level of involvement. That wide variety of suitors no doubt drove the bidding to heights that would have been all but unimaginable at the start of the 2018 season. Once Patrick Corbin went off the board, the sprint for Eovaldi was on. Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, however, clearly had decided that Eovaldi was a top priority. With deep pockets and the allure of a repeat title run aiding his cause, Dombrowski was able to get his target.
  5. I can’t stand that guy.
  6. 3 consecutive Division titles and a World Championship earns him the nickname, Dominant Dave.
  7. In the last 50 years, the Red Sox have had 7 MVPs --Yaz, Lynn, Rice, Clemens, Vaughn, Pedroia, and Betts. Sure let's trade him. That sounds like a good idea.
  8. Bulloen was a huge need for them. Last year it was atrocious, contributing to the Mets having a losing record in deGrom’s starts.
  9. The Mets do have a new GM. The 2 owners are a couple dishonest slimeballs, but the jury is out on the new GM. The Mets are not in as bad shape as people think. They have a rotation of deGrom, Syndegaard, Wheeler and Matz. No team in the NL East comes close to that rotation. Adding Cano gives them a quality bat. They will need to add another quality bat to make up for the absence of Cespedes to compete for a playoff spot.
  10. It is chump change for the Yankee players. If they had distributed another 15 shares, it would have cost the millionaires only $12k each.
  11. What has you angry about this article?
  12. You will get bupkis for Gray. He stinks, and the word is out.
  13. They are inching toward the cliff.
  14. Paxton has never been durable. His career high in innings is 160 in 2018. He is 30 years old.
  15. Cashman is no fool.
  16. The Yankees needed to address starting pitching which is their biggest need.
  17. Details to follow. Edit: The Yankees have struck a deal to acquire lefty James Paxton from the Mariners, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link). Top pitching prospect Justus Sheffield is coming to Seattle in return, per Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times (Twitter link). Completing the return are outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams and righty Erik Swanson, per Corey Brock of The Athletic (via Twitter). This is the first major move of the winter, bringing a top-shelf starter to a New York club that has long been rumored to be seeking to boost its rotation. Having already inked CC Sabathia earlier in the winter, the Yanks now appear unlikely to pursue more than one additional starter, though they’ll still have ample financial flexibility to go after any available pitchers.
  18. He is 35 years old.
  19. Excellent signing by DD! Pearce and Moreland will enhance each others performance. Pearce should help Moreland from wearing down in the second half of the season.
  20. "Noise in the data" -- I think that is a good description.
  21. As for the 2006 Cardinals, the NY Mets gave away probably 2 games in their playoff series. The Mets were clearly the more talented team, but they played very poorly. It wasn't the result of a couple of lousy bounces. The Mets made some very bad plays and their manager made some very poor decisions. As for the example of Damon and Ortiz, having bad series. It wasn't because the slumps randomly appeared. Pitchers in those series saw that they could be successfully pitched to in a certain manner and they executed the pattern over and over and the hitters took some time to adjust. I will guarantee you that they were not getting them out with fastballs down the middle and they were just randomly getting themselves out.
  22. Betting odds in any sport are not true or accurate probabilities. For example, the slowest horse in a race that has no chance of winning doesn't go off at 1 million to 1. They set the odds in a manner to encourage betting and then as the money comes in on a race or any athletic contest, the odds are adjusted to reflect the distribution of the money bet. They do not reflect an accurate mathematical probability of winning. I am not an odds-maker, and other people like iortiz are more knowledgeable about this aspect of sports, but trying to connect betting odds to mathematical probability is fallacious.
  23. This is truly silly, but to each his/her own.
  24. Morton is in his mid 30's. I would only give him a 1 or 2 year deal. No to Gio. He sucks. No to Cody Allen unless he is half the price of Kimbo. Allen is just as big a heart attack as Kimbrel, and not nearly as good. No to Chavez. He's a bag of garbage.
  25. What I like most about Cora is how he is on top of every aspect of what is going on o the field. Even when he is discussing something with his bench coach, he is still watching the field. I don't like managers who are flipping through charts and graphs in the dugout. Cora does his data homework before the game starts, so he is prepared to do his job properly from the dugout by watching the game. I can't remember having such a high opinion of any Red Sox manager, and I loved Tito.
