Based on his career thus far, it would seem that 150 hits per year for 6 or 7 years should not be a problem. Unfortunately, even if he remains healthy, performances often fall off dramatically in the mid-30's. 3,500 hits would be very tough, but not impossible. It would take about 9 or 10 more years. By age 40, Jeter would obviously not be an economically viable player at anything close to his current salary. Jeter, unlike Bernie, may not want to play for small $. He also might have too much ego not to be "the man." Bernie obviously has very little ego. I don't see Jeter accepting a diminished role. Forget about him moving to 3rd and swapping SS with ARod. He'd never stand for that.
