    He's a good rent-a-player choice, provided they don't give up the top prospects in the organization.

    He showed poise and ability, but his ability is not overwhelming enough to overcome his lack of experience. The Sox can't afford to let this kid take the hill every fifth date.

    I have a question for Yankee fans. Why in Jeter's absence is Cairo playing SS? There were two plays last night that ARod would have made. ARod would have thrown out Lowell (scored a hit) even if he had bobbled the ball. ARod has a gun and Lowell runs like a snail. ARod also would have made the play on Coco (also scored a hit). If he handles that ball cleanly, he gets Coco. My theory is that Boot-licker Joe doesn't want to disturb the sensibilities of the the delicate prima dona, Jeter. Give me strong arguments for this defensive alignment to disabuse me of this notion.

    I'm not too thrilled with Varitek in the 6th spot, so I wouldn't move him to the 5 hole. I'd prefer Lowell, but the smart move is to move Youk to the 5 hole. If they want to walk Manny, they'll have to face guy with one of the top oBP's in the game. That could be a recipe for some very big innings.

    I liked what I saw from the kid. I was in my seat until the lst out despite the odious nauseating atmosphere of the big toilet in the Bronx. I figured that the Evil Empire would prevail in the end especially since today is 06-06-06-- take away the zeros and you've got the devil's combination. Although I was impressed with the kid, we can't afford to run him out there every fifth Day yet. he's still too inexperienced. With the bad news about Wells the Sox desperately need to get bona fide major league pitcher.

    Was he warming in the pen tonight?

    Iwatched him take BP on before the final game in Philly. He hit a lot of grounders and he was having trouble getting the barrel on the ball in BP. He was very inconsistent in driving the ball.

    Nixon just isn't getting the barrel of the bat to good fastballs lately and he is popping them up to the left side. This has me baffled since he built his reputation on being a good fastball hitter.

    I blame Terry. He knows that Seanez has a habit of putting men on. He left him with no margin for error. he should have taken the kid out after the second base runner of the inning. You can't bring a wild pitcher like Seanez to face the most selective batter in the AL with the bases loaded. If he brought him in one batter earlier, he gets out of the inning.

    i was at the big toilet in the Bronx tonight. i had pretty good vantage point to observe the pitching. i was directly behind home plate in the 5th row of the tier box seats.the kid looked pretty good. he had good east-west command. He threw few balls right down the middle. I couldn't get a good read on the north-south commnd,but it must have been pretty good since they hit a lot of grounders. I only remember one ball being smoked-- the bernie homer. Pauley had a great night. He looked very confident. It ws great to see especially since the news on Well is not very good.

    5 BB --- that spells big trouble at the ML level. Between Lester and Pauley we can expect 2 more blow out losses berfore the end of the week. The FO had better get serious about getting some experienced professional pitchers.

    I have been reading that John Lester might be starting one of the two games on Saturday, June 10th against the Texas Rangers. Beckett is scheduled to pitch the other game. Does anyone know if Beckett will pitch the afternoon game or the evening game?

    In the year after surgery, you can't expect too much.

    You can get a computer generated voice to do that. Some of the best listens in Sports told interesting and colrful stories. Vin Scully is like a solo artist the way he weaves his stories into the game. Harry Caray was hoot as was Dizzy Dean. For all the criticism he receives on these boards, Hawk Harrelson adds color to the game that goes beyond analyzing the plays.

    We have become a country of thin-skinned wimps. It's sickening.

    I miss the days when announcers could be colorful without worrying about being PC. Announcing has become too sterile. Maybe someday we will be listening to computer generated announcing voices. Wouldn't that be fun.
