  1. Either way, it should be nauseating to watch.
  2. It should be good enough to win, except that Francona has more often than not saddled Wakefield with an offensive lineup that features two or three weak bench players.
  3. I don't know exactly what it will take to get him, but I am sure it would be one or more prime prospects and some second tier prospects. Maybe the Marlin's price is prohibitive, in which case maybe they should pursue Schmidt.
  4. I don't disagree with you. These very bad offseaon moves have set up this very bad cycle -- bad bullpen causing starter to be moved to the pen thus weakening the rotation, and weakened rotation has caused strain on already bad bullpen resulting in spiraling bad results.
  5. Dontrelle Willis is very, very old. Major league experience doesn't necessarily equate to being old. It usually equates to a higher level of consistency and proficiency. Why don't you get season tickets to the Lowell Spinners. They have a whole roster of prospects that can't help the major league team for at least two years.
  6. We are now down to 3 major league starters. Things are looking good. We have some good prospects in A ball. Maybe they can fill in the rotation. A transaction to obtain an experienced starter is out of the question.
  7. It's amusing to me that in your world it is not possible to be wrong about something without also being an idiot or being afflicted with "dumbassitis." How well has this approach served you in your personal relationships? Winning an argument for you is apparently not satisfying unless you can also be demeaning. Why don't you go find the boards that the Rivernator (the other TalkSox borderline personality) currently trolls and live happily ever after. The Rivernator is allegedly an MD who might be able to get you on the proper medication.:thumbdown
  8. I am also hoping that Wells returns and Wily Mo comes back to contribute. I am still hopeful that Foulke can be a productive bullpen member. However, as we go down this list, I start to realize that there are just too many "ifs". When you have too many "ifs" the outcome is usually not good, because it is very unlikely that they will all pan out. Most, if not all, of these problems started with the FO blunders signing of Seanez and Tavarez. Many on these boards, including myself, believed those moves to be blunders. They are turning out to be worse than I expected. Not only have they caused the bullpen to be unreliable, but there has been a whole domino effect that has caused the starting pitching to be way too thin. Even if Foulke had been reliable, the Seanez/Tavarez signings have caused Papelbon to move to the bullpen by necessity; thus, weakening the starting rotation by one. I am not too critical of the Arroyo trade, but that has left the rotation two pitchers short, because Clement has not done anything to keep his spot. If the bullpen had been properly stocked in the off season, Papelbon would have moved to the pen immediately when Wells went to the DL, and it would be much easier to fill one vacant spot temporarily or to live with Clement's inconsistency. There is no chance that Papelbon can move into the rotation, and I think it is necessary to get an experienced consistent starter to offset the inconsistent Clement. They are two pitchers short in the pen, and that needs to be addressed before they blow out both Papelbon and Timlin. I don't think Theo can sit around and hope the pieces fall in the right place and the problems correct themselves. I don't see it happening. I think he needs to sacrifice some prospects to get the needed pieces.
  9. If your definition of getting owned is having your intellect insulted.
  10. But the guy wins. And the teams he leaves don't.
  11. This is a typical Dan Duquette move-- looking for lightning in a bottle. This FO has made some tremendous blunders since the '04 Championship. At the top of that list is letting an HOF pitcher walk while he can still pitch like an HOFer. It was a penny-wise and pound foolish move. The money that they saved on Pedro has been redeployed on the likes of Clement, Wells, Seanez and Tavarez. How has that worked out? When the last chapter on the Damon trade is written 4 years from today, I think that will prove to be a blunder also.
  12. Perez didn't play that day.
  13. You have a highly developed sense of humor.
  14. If at the end of the year the Guardians still have Jason Michaels batting second and Eduardo Perez batting 5th they will not finish second in the AL in runs scored. What has not changed is that you can never address the merits of an argument, you would much rather just dismiss someone as stupid or an idiot. That says a lot about you.
  15. They should have though about re-signing Myers.
  16. I always watch, but watching a team that I believe can be fixed to win that is not because Theo doesn't want to sacrifice the future is just a recipe for losing and mediocrity. You can win and rebuild at the same time if you have the horses to win. The way this team is put together it cannot win. It has several missing pieces. One or two missing pieces can be filled without dipping intop the minor league talent pool, but not 4 or 5 pieces. The Sox need two reliable starters, two reliable bullpen guys, and at least one productive bench player. Theo can only make this happen by sacrificing some talent. I don't like that he has to do this, but they constructed this roster foolishly. If he only fills three of these spots because he doesn't want to give up a top prospect or two, they can be competitive, but the best they will do is a wipe-out in the first round of the playoffs. I have a strong disagreement with that approach. Is that allowed? As a fan, can I hope management makes their best effort to win this year? BTW I would never stop watching. I never have. I travel to many states to watch away games and I make several trips to Fenway. I log alot of miles watching the Sox, so don't get sick. You misunderstood my post. I think, however, that if Theo lets this roster stay this way, he is wasting our time. I don't want to watch that kind of team. I did not say that I will not watch the team.
  17. Yes, the very powerful offense with Jason Michaels battring 2nd and Eduardo Perez batting 5th. A very scary offense.
  18. Gf*** that. Then don't spend $120+ million on a payroll if you are not going to do what it takes to win. You either go all out to win or you build for the future. Anything in between is half -assed losing BS. I don't want to watch a team that i know has no chance of winning the WS just because they can hang with the pack and be competitive. He's wasting our time. Win or rebuild. This team can't win jack s*** the way it is currently constructed-- bad rotation, bad bullpen, no bench. Make up your mind if you can win with this team, Theo. Stop jerking us off.
  19. You can't kill the guy for tonight's performance. The pen came in and put the game out of reach. The offense has also had a tendency to go into a coma for prolonged periods.
  20. They have to pay the price or they might as well flush this season down the toilet.
  21. JVB had his shot tonight and he s*** the bed.
  22. This team needs a big bold move to bolster the rotation. After the Schilling. there is nothing but quesrtion marks, .500 pitchers, and dead wood. They need to get someone fast.
  23. One run offense will not win you any games.
  24. If Tito wanted to go with experience, Riske has been looking good lately. He had an excellent outing on Sunday.
