  1. Nice play by Pedroia to end the game.
  2. There has been a lot of mono going around. A bad case of mono can be very debilitating, but it's much better than cancer. When I first heard about the swelling under his arms, I got a bad feeling. Hopefully, they rule it out quickly. THe kid must be freaking out.
  3. Welcome and good luck to Clay.
  4. The FO didn't come up with the necessary reinforcements when they were needed.
  5. The Sox need to consider all possibilities , because they can't go with what they've got. Nothing wrong with considering Zito, and at the right price they should sign him. He'll probably be too pricey and not a very good value. If the Sox can't get what they need from the FA pool, they'll have to get creative and pull off a trade or two.
  6. Nice play by Pedroia.
  7. That was a wild play.
  8. When I heard that 9 teams were inquiring, I figured that they had a chance of getting a good prospect. It's a good deal for the Red Sox and if he wins some key games down the stretch and in the playoffs, it could be worth it for the Padres.
  9. This say the player is going to be George Kottaras, a Triple A catcher. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5922812
  10. I wasn't being sarcastic. I think it is really nutty that some Yankee fans are choosing up sides between Jeter and ARod.
  11. Correction. NESN says 9 teams are interested-- every contender.
  12. Major holes need to be filled. They need two starters and about three good bullpen arms. Other than Papelbon and MDC, no one else can be counted on for next year's pen. Hansen has shown no consistency and no improvement as the season has progressed. Also, they need a #5 hitter. That's a tall order. We can't forget that Gonzo is not signed beyond this year.
  13. That's really nutty.
  14. THis will be 11 of 13 or is it 9 of 11?
  15. Carlos Pena with another K. He's brutal.
  16. It's nice to build around a big stopper.
  17. I am with you on this Fred. We want the kid to succeed, but he's had a lot of problems from the get go with consistency. While we are not giving up on him, other posters are over enthusiatic about his future. I don't get excited until I start seeing the results. Lester has given us glimpses of success that cause us to hope, but he has not shown the consistency that is necessary to succeed in the ML.
  18. That's not a bad value. I would doubt that they would shop him in the off-season.
  19. I wasn't sure if my opinion about them was clear . I have made a special effort the last couple of days to resist the temptation of bringing them up. Tonight I am going a step further and I am making an effort to not engage anyone like MC who tries to bait me on the point.
  20. Any details on the money?
  21. I don't think I have even used either of their names this evening. I get blamed for beating the dead horse, but I am not the one that keeps dragging the dead horse out of the barn.
  22. Coco continues to disappoint.
  23. I think you may be undervaluing him. NESN is reporting that 7 teams have interest in him. He's a lefty that is pitching very well right now. His arm is fresh because he has not pitched most of the year and he has always been a money big game pitcher. He could make the difference for some team in the post-season. Each of the teams headed for the playoffs has some starting pitching deficiencies, except maybe for the White Sox. It is a sellers market for this commodity.
  24. We don't have enough pitching, but the yankees aren't exactly swimming in it either, especially with Moose on the shelf. If the Red Sox got him and wanted to pare payroll they might have had to eat some of his salary, not most of it. We didn't even have to eat most of Rent a Wreck's salary. We ate $11 million of $30 million and Abreu is much better than Renteria. You need to think a little more creatively. Frankly, after watching him with the Yankees, I would have kept him for the 1 year and let him play RF. The heart of the order would have become as potent as the 2003-2005 teams and he is a good fielder with good speed on the bases. I have not contradicted myself one bit on Abreu. My position is that we should have made the move. This is not inconsistent with the position that we need pitching. We need both.
  25. I complained that we spent too much on Hinske because he's garbage. I also suggested that the Red Sox could have unloaded Abreu in the offseason if they didn't want to pay his full salary. He would have been an expensive stop gap move but our competition is the Yankees and the FO can't keep getting beat to the punch. Whether he would have made the difference is debatable. I don't think he makes the Red Sox a WS winner, but the Yankees are not that good either. He might have been the differnce maker in the division. Also, for a one-year investment of $17 million, he would been part of a very formidable 3,4, and 5 with Manny and Ortiz. $!7 million is a big contract, but not a big, long term contract, and it would have been a bargain compared to the $21 million spent for one year of Renteria.
