    No whining just pointing out a fsact that the stadium was empty on Labor Day weekend game against a playoff contender, because idf a misting rain. That's pathetic. Fenway is filled on days like that when the temperature is hovering in the 40's. The difference is that Yankee fans are delicate little momma's boys.:thumbdown They could catch a cold.

    It's not his fault the FO didn't want him back. They low-balled him. He wanted to come back. He was practically begging to come back and the fans wanted him back. Only the FO didn't want him back, screwing him and the fans. It kills me to see him in a Yankee uniform, but I bear him no ill will as long as the Yankees lose.

    I am still going for the Mets and Pedro to beat the tar out of the Yankees, but I'd like to see OTH Johnny hit about .550 in the post-season.

    We had an interesting thread during Spring Training about how many innings Papelbon should throw this year. Of course, that's when we thought he would be a starter. A lot of people felt that he could handle a load of 200+ innings. Going up to that level of innings for a kid that has never been near that number of innings always carries the risk of breakdown. This kid is so intense that he wouldn't let up when he was hitting the wall. They've been monitoring him closely in the closers role, but his intensity plus the fact that ML innings are much different than innings at any other level resulted in him being overworked. When he gets older and more established, he'll get to know his limits better and he'll be better able to read the signals that his body gives him. Hopefully, the next time he starts to feel that fatigue he'll recognize it sooner and he'll shut it down for a couple of days before he gets injured.

    Yankke Stadium is empty today. Your team is comfortably in first place on a long Labor Day weekend, playing a playoff contender and the place is empty. Yankee fans are such a bunch of delicate little wussies.

    I'd feel better about it if they were saying that it was a highly curable form of cancer rather than "treatable."

    An article in today's Herlad says that the cure rate for this cancer is better than 50-50. Yesterday, we were hearing 70%. I don't know if anyone on these boards has any experience with this type of cancer, but it sounds like this kid is going to be in for a very tough fight.

    There's no reason to shut down Wakefield. I am sure he wants to come back.

    I am also sure that the likes of Jon Lieber could be obtained in a salary dump for a low level prospect.

    I agree with you that Lugo doesn't fit with this team and that he is not that good, but all indications from inside sources are that the Sox FO is pursuing him.

    I think that this will be a critical off-season for the FO. They had a good core with the 2004 team to build around and improve, but they let major pieces of the core leave. The replacements for those guys: Clement, Renteria (gone), and Crisp have flopped and they would not represent part of the team's core, which is shrinking. When you think of it, with Schilling and Wakefield at 40, Loretta and Nixon likely gone, and Manny with only two years on his contract, this team has no core of veterans to build around except Papi. Papi is great, but this year has proved that the big guy can't do it all by himself. The kids are not ready to be major building blocks-- none of them are proven except Papelbon. They have to take some serious steps to rebuild the core of this team or they will not be in contention in '07 or '08.

    This is the worst starting rotation of the Red Sox that I can remember. Seriously, if you look at the '92 roster (the worst Sox team since '66), the pitching rotation on that team was much better.
