It is hard for me to remember a time when the Red Sox paraded such garbage to the mound on a regular basis before September. It's unbelievable. JSinger drew a comparison of tonight's lineup to the Butch Hobson days. As bad as that team was, and it was bad (7th place finish in AL East), it had a pitching rotation with a young Clemens and Frank Viola, both of whom threw 230+ innings. They had 3 guys in the bullpen with sub 3 ERA's--Fossas (2.43), Harris (2.51), and Quantrill (2.19). They also had Jeff Reardon and 4 other serviceable guys that each pitched more than 130 innings. This year's staff doesn't compare very favorably with that staff and that team was a train wreck, probably the worst Red Sox team I ever watched. It is beyond belief that the 2006 team is starting to conjure up memories for me of that team.
