    I am not sold on Ervin Santana. He reminds me too much of Ramon Ortiz when he was with the Angels. Also, he hasn't made much progress this year over last year. There are too many dead spots and question marks in the batting order. Tek is on the decline offensively. Gonzo is not in the lineup for offense. Crisp is not an offensive force. Pedroia is yet to prove that he can hit consistently at the ML level. With that many question marks and dead spots, this would be a third place team IMO without the duo of Manny and Ortiz.

    With regard to the post-season, Jeter is not a choker, but that doesn't make him a clutch post-season performer. His post season stats are at about the same level as his regular season stats (maybe slightly below). IMO a clutch post-season player performs over and above his regular season levels. Someone who plays to the same level in the post-season as he does in the regular season is neither a choker or a clutch player.

    How's that Batting Avg. race going? I think Jeter is in third place now. Ortiz is at 53 HRs now and he has hit w 5 in the past week with no protection in the lineup, but somehow Jeter is extending his MVP lead with the writers. What a rigged BS system.

    Big Whoop? It would be foolish to be pessimistic if the BoSox were making a run at the title, but they are not even in the playoffs despite the second biggest payroll in the game. Some people might think pessimism is an appropriate response. I hope that you are right. I was not opposed to the trade when it happened, but as I watch this guy, I get Dave Kingman flashbacks. I don't know what kind of stat or trend you are relying upon as a basis for your belief that his k rate will decline. It seems more like you are hoping. Were there signs of progress this year? He seems to k in every big situation and his HRs come against crappy pitchers. It doesn't give me much reason to hope. It's nice that he hits them a long way, but so did Kingman and Sam Horn.

    Yankee fans should be on these boards for the entertainment of the Red Sox fans. They serve a useful purpose as objects of our scorn and abuse. They rarely if ever contribute any useful baseball knowledge. Certainly those contributions are dwarfed by their ball-breaking, stupid, childish posts.

    I don't know where you got the above- list. Did you just make it up? Below is the list of pitchers against which WMP hit HRs in 2006. Not an impressive list. Walker (Toronto) Lee (7-1 loss, he hit his Hr with the team down 4-1) Lopez (balt. in an 11-1 win) Orvella (Tampa) Byrd Sikorski(Cleve) Huson (KC) Hernandez(KC) Benson (Balt) Proctor Escobar

    More Wily Mo Kingman. I'm telling you that he reminds me of Kingman more and more. You have to endure terrible fielding and k's game after game waiting for the occasional bomb which is usually against substandard pitchers in meaningless situations. Good pitchers make him look foolish.

    The Yankees beat us. I'll admit to that, but were they great? They were a flawed limping injured team for more than half of the season. Our FO let stay them stay in the race by diddling around with an assortment of losers in the starting rotation and without providing any reinforcements at a time when the Red Sox should have been putting major distance between themselves and the Yankees. The Yankee FO provided the reinforcements and blew our doors off. They weren't a great team, but their FO kicked our FO's ass big time. There is no doubt about that.

    I am so glad that the FO stuck to its guns and didn't give up Lester, MDC and Hansen for either Andruw Jones or Roy Oswalt. Afterall, where would they fit on the BoSox. Plus, Oswalt could never pitch in the AL.
