  1. Replacing Pedro/Lowe withe Clement/Wells. I am gagging. I don't think anyone felt good about that even before the injuries. The FO totally mispent the savings for letting Lowe and Pedro walk and they got a couple of Lottert tickets for it. Letting Pedro go looks like the right move because the medical staff probably knew about the condition of his shoulder, but letting rubber-armed Lowe walk for draft choices and clement or wells is just plain silly. And we are seeing how well it has turned out. No $ savings, injured Clement, injured Wells, injured Pedro, Lowe playoff bound. I realize that we got Hansen with this extra pick, which was lucky if you loook at the guys picked before and after him, but he is a long, long, long way from being the quality major leaguer that would justify letting Lowe walk. Successful teams don't let their stars walk for nothing. If you are going to let your stars walk, do it the way Florida does it. Lert them go a year earlier by trading them for top prospects in the minors. Minor league success is a much higher barometer for Major league success than high school or college.
  2. He strikes out 1 of every 3 ABs. He has n't improved in that area or with regard to his patience at the plate where he has consistently walked about 6.5% of the time throughout his short career. I don't think we will be seeing any marked improvement in those areas next year either. If he is given the full time RF job and he stays healthy, we can expect him to be chasing 200 K's.
  3. Kushi, I am calling in our bet. On August 16th, I made the following post prior to the 5 games against the Yankees: You called me a quitter, but I was just calling it the way I saw it. I don't always call them right, but unfortunately I called this one right. As I said previously, I would have been glad to have been proved wrong. As for your new title, let's go with "Cockeyed Naive Optimist." That's not too bad.
  4. Yeah, that makes a big difference, especially considering that the draft is a very inexact science and somewhat of a crapshoot. The Yankees have picked up some pretty good young players outside of the draft, e.g. Cano and Wang. Here's a link of first round draft choices since 2000. It demonstrates just what a crapshoot the draft is. These are first round picks and not that many guys make it to the majors, and very few become stars. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/history/draft/index.jsp?feature=decade2000s Here are the first round picks from the 90's http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/history/draft/index.jsp?feature=decade1990s Letting established stars walk to get draft picks is not much better than getting a lottery ticket in return, and if the picks aren't in the first round the odds are way worse.
  5. Great D didn't help this year's team very much. We have a DH. Maybe Soriano can play 1B.
  6. This will be the futhest the Red Sox have finished out of first place since the finished 13 1/2 games behind the Yankees in 2001, and it will be the first time that they haven't finished in second place since 1997.
  7. Al,most 90 ABs for Pedroia and he is hitting .191. Is he out of his slump? Maybe the Sox should consider getting Soriano for second base.
  8. Manny once again reminding us why he is one of the greatest RH hitters that we will ever see in a Red Sox uniform.
  9. Wily Mo continuing to remind me of Dave Kingman.
  10. $52 million for Pedro. $24 million for Clement. Saved $28 million wasted $21 million on Renteria. Net savings $7 million. Less $1 million wasted on Jason Johnson ( a total loss). Net saving $6 million. While he made a good decision on Pedro, he did n't spend the money wisely. He basically flushed it down the toilet.
  11. That's a shame. I'll miss watching him pitch.
  12. Brewers have just taken a 2-0 lead over the Cards in the 7th inning. If they lose today, they leave the door wide open for Houston. If the Stros win their last two, even if the Cards win tomorrow, they'll have to play SF on Monday.
  13. He's had lots of arm problems. I wouldn't want him unless his contract was loade with incentives.
  14. I agree!! He is not fit to carry the name Soxfan#1. "Number 1 Fraud" would be more appropriate.
  15. You would think that with Manny in the lineup that Ortiz would want to play, because he might see some strikes and be able to add to his record.

  17. It was post-life for him after the choking.
  18. Maybe they thought that privately, but they never said that publicly. They played the public PR game that they were doing their best to put out a winning team, but they clearly didn't. It was indeed ugly. I hope they'll be back next season, but they'll need to be aggressive with trades and FA's if they want to challenge for a title next year. The kids are not ready to carry them yet.
  19. I don't have anyone specific in mind and there isn't much point to throwing out a couple of names, because I don't know if they would be available. I think they should explore opportunities get a power hitting 1B.
  20. Well that's true. I never thought that was a realistic possibility. If the Padres wanted to get fleeced, I would have had no problem with that.
  21. http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/headtohead/player-matchup Youklis is not such a big upgrade over Millar. I'd like the Sox to pick up a stud lefty first baseman with some pop, and use Youk in more of a platoon role with some time a 3B and an occasional game in LF at Fenway.
