Wow! PC World strikes again. Ridiculous. My theory is that he got fired because he was taking shots at the Yankees like crazy during last Saturday's game. I'm not Hispanic, but several of my friends and co-workers are Hispanic and none of them mentioned anything about being offended by anything Lyons said. Had anyone else heard about this controversy, or have I just been too busy to notice?

You and every Yankee fan were thrilled to be playing a reeling Detroit rather than Minnesota. Every Red Sox fan was disappointed. No one gave Detroit a chance. Are they better than we expected? MAybe so, but the Yankees still should have taken them out. They buried them in game one. They were leading in game two, and everyone was making plans for the ALCS tickets, but they let it slip away. In game 3, the Yankees expected to beat Rogers just by throwing their gloves on the field and they forgot about grinding out at bat and driving up a pitcher's pitch count. They let themselves get taken out of their game. By time game 4 came, they had lost their confidence, the Tigers were strutting with confidence and Torre clearly panicked in filling out the lineup card. Make no mistake though the Yankees gagged and choked once again. After getting by the Yankees, an inferior A's team was no match. The A's are not a good team. They are made up of re-treads and back up players. They were n't going anywhere. They were lucky to get by the Twins. Zito cranked up the game of his life to make Santana a non-factor, and then it was AA and AAA pitches and a badly damaged Brad Radke. Once they got by Santana, it was a cake-walk.

I think hitting coaches are overrated. I'm not saying that he wasn't a good coach. I just think hitting coaches are not indispensable.

The market is waht it is. We need pitching. If we don't pay market prices for it, we won't be good. Pedro made $17 million in his last year and Schilling made $13-14 million in '04. Good pitching costs.

You are right about this' date=' but he is not a Yankee patsy either, and being with a team with a superior offense might garner him some additional wins. The market for good pitching is what it is. The Red Sox can't complain about money, because few teams have more. You are right to be skeptical, because it is a lot of $, but how many pitchers are out there that you would feel comfortable giving such a contract? You probably would not be able to count much beyond one hand.

Here's what you said: I do understand that, but do you understand that the opposing team's pitcher also has to face a DH. The playing field is level. And let's not forget that the Red Sox have the best DH in all of baseball, so our pitchers should be at an advantage compared to other AL pitchers. Unfortuantely, this years staff just had no talent for either league.

Bill Lee was asoft-tossing lefty when Fenway was a hitters haven when it was only a single deck stadium. All the additions have cut down on wind aided fly balls, and Fenway is no longer a Home Run launching pad. Lee was a consistent winner and a bona fide Yankee Killer. Bruce Hurst did n't throw harder than Zito, and he was very effective in Fenway. Zito is a very good pitcher that has been very consistent performer in his still young career.

This is just an immature remark. Do any of us here have any control over Red Sox management? What choice do we have than to deal with it? That doesn't mean we can't discuss the merits of the deal. Isn't that what these boards are all about? I dealt with the trading of Bagwell for Larry Anderson, but that doesn't mean that it was a good trade. Your conclusion that Arroyo was a #5 pitcher in the AL is unsupportable by any evidence. Yes he was a #4/5 pitcher on a staff with Pedro, Lowe, and Schilling. On some AL teams he woulkd have been a #3. He was and still is a consistent 10-15 game winner in either league. He takes the ball 33-35 times a year. Your conclusions about AL/NL transfers are not supportable when it comes to win totals. If anything moving to the AL should help win totals, because pitchers are not lifted for PH's before the 5th inning, and AL teams have been winning more interleague games the last few years.

The Red Sox outdrew the Tigers this year by almost 500' date='000 fans, and in the Tigers bad years the Red Sox outdraw them by 800,000 to 1 million fans, plus the Red Sox charge much more per ticket. The Tigers franchise is not in the same value league as the red Sox. As such, any comparison to them is not valid. The Red Sox had a lousy team this year because the FO made a number of poor decisions over the last couple of years resulting in the mismanagement of its substantial resources. If a team with the resources of the Braves can rebuild on a ongoing basis but remain in the playoffs for 14 consecutive years, there is no reason why a rich team like Boston should fail to make the playoffs a mere two years after winning the World Series. I'm just not buying your explanation. It doesn't hold water.

I think that Foulke finally regained his health and his mechanics at the end of the year. By the end of September his confidence in his ability was growing. Unless he has a physical setback, I see him as being able to contribute much more than garbage innings in '07.

The Yankees had the most talent of any team in the playoffs and they were huge Vegas favorites to win. The greatest lineup of all-time made pitchers that they had raked in the regualr season look like Koufax and Drysdale. The Yankees beat the Tigers like a pinata in the regular season. You can call it what you want, but I call it choking.

The whole league adjustment league is completely overblown. Yes it affects ERA, because the AL has a DH. It shouldn't affect wins. When an NL pither switches to the AL, it's not like the other pitchers aren't also pitching to DH's. They are on a level playing field with pitchers in their own league. Are you assuming that AL pitching is superior to NL pitching? If so, on what are you basing that conclusion?
