Great points. Even though the Yankees still outspend us by a lot, the term isn't appropriate, because most of our guys are also overpaid. They are no longer dirt dogs. For the money that the FO spent on many of them, they are just s*** bags.

I think it takes two good hitters to replace the great Manny. He is not only a power hitter, but a good situational hitter that can work the count and wear down the opposing pitcher. If they move him for prospects, they should get Sheff and Carlos Lee or Soriano.

It's about producing at the right times to get wins. If they are all producing at garbage time, it will not translate into wins. Wily Mo doesn't hit enough in big spots, nor does he make productive contact to move runners. He waves three times and sits down way too much. Let's forget about the Trot/Wily Mo debate and go in a new direction. Let's say Carlos Lee or Sheffield or both.

You think way too much of Youklis. If he's going to be a leadoff hitter with no speed, he'd better have a an OBP like Boggs. He is not much better than Kevin Millar, and no one is making up a HOF placque for Millar. We need a thumper at 1st. I think we should sign Sheff to play 1st. Youk can come off the bench.

That's not much over 4 years. He hit a 40 year old Maddux that throws about 85. The guys you have mentioned other than Maddux, Oswalt and Lee are not all that good, but even counting them, he's hit 13 out of 59 HRs against these guys. The rest of his HRs must be against real bums. By July 1st, we will be sick of watching him walking back to the dugout with his bat in big spots.

If Trot could still hit .300, he would be valuable to the Red Sox even if he has lost his power, because a high OBP would go along with it. I don't think he can hit .300 anymore. I'll take an empty .300 average with a high OBP.
