  1. No, they are garbage with the potential to become what I term "Human forfeits."
  2. If you want to join in the action with Jackson, you can be my bitch along with Jackson if he comes to Boston.
  3. This move was made by Theo, who tried to get him after 2004, and he was forced to make a move to make up for the blunder of letting Damon walk.
  4. Jackson, you left Clemens off your poll. He'll be the 5th starter no later than July 1st.
  5. I don't think it is a panic move. Clearly, the kid wanted to resume the role. It was going to be hard for him to recapture the magic, the aura, the sheer intimidation that he brought to the mound in the 9th inning. He knew that and he relished the adrenaline rush. Let's face it. He a one of a kind closer-- a Mo Rivera, Joe Nathan-type closer. Look for Clemens to be in the rotation by mid-season.
  6. I am excited about the season, but this is a flawed team that needs work. Theo should have worked out some of those things already.
  7. I would welcome any similarity to '97 Nomar.
  8. You are right Fred. He just sealed the Yankees doom. He's always wrong. Two years ago he predicted that Sosa hit 50 HRs for the Orioles.
  9. I couldn't see it. I was at work and it wasn't on MLB audio.
  10. I put little or no emphasis on ST for the veterans, but I do like to see something positive from the rookies if they are going to come north. Some of the kid pitchers will be left behind solely because they had lousy springs. Too many people, including the FO are treating Pedroia like he has veteran status when he has done nothing to earn it.
  11. It's still one acquisition and taking a stud from your bullpen to the detriment of the bullpen. The rotation looks a lot better on paper, but overall is the entire staff that much stronger? We added Dice K to a s***** staff. That was it-nothing more unless you want to turn cartwheels over Donnelly and Okajima.
  12. When I hear this debate over whether a WS championship is worth the risk of Helton's huge contract, I cringe. First of all, we wouldn't be taking his whole contract. Maybe we'd have to pay him as much as 13 or 14 million a year. He's certainly worth it if he reverts to form. Second, if we don't win a championship with him in the first year or two, we could trade him. Unless he falls off a cliff this year, someone will want him. We may have to eat 2-3 million a year, but so what. That's what a POS like Tavarez or Cora makes. It's chump change to the Red Sox and it wouldn't impede other dealings or signings. It's not an all or nothing proposition so why do you guys weigh a WS Championship against a 5 year huge contract. Those are not the only options.
  13. Yes, surely 10 year veterans have as much to prove in ST as a Rookie with 90 ABs and a .191 average. That's a fair comparison.
  14. He catches the ball very well, blocks the plate like an NFL lineman, and he is a great handler of pitches. He can't throw out my grandmother on the bases, even on a pitch-out. His release is so slow, and his arm is not that strong. However, his value behind the plate is incalculable. The only two times that he has had extended DL stints the team took unbelievable nosedives. I don't think that is a coincidence. Pedro attributed the first nose-dive to Tek's absence.
  15. Pedroia got a couple of hits and got on base 4 times. He was down to .200 and I was getting really nervous.
  16. Dice K pitches great for 5+ innings and MDC immediately gives up a gopher ball. We should have packaged him and Hansen in the Helton deal or for Chad Cordero. These two guys are pitching themselves off the ML roster and losing their lustre as prospects. Also,Pedroia is down to .200. How many AB's does he have? I am really starting to worry about him.
  17. 100 percent correct. If he does well, which I expect he will since he is healthy, his price will go up and he'll want more than 1 year. If his price goes up to high, they'll let him walk leaving a gaping hole in the rotation, and in the worst case scenario he walks to the Yanks making them stronger. There is almost no upside to waiting him out. The smart bet is to lock him in now at a reasonable cost.
  18. He has looked very good this Spring. He's prepared to be the ace of the staff onced again. The FO should extend him before they come north.
  19. I think you may be overstating the case a bit. Only one new starting pitcher was acquired. The other new starter (Papelbon) came to the rotation at a huge cost to the bullpen, which is in a shambles. As for the offense, the bottom of the lineup is weak. I don't agree with the 87 win prediction, but I am not ready to believe that this team is a powerhouse.
