  1. Rice comes out with some doozies. He just said that with Beckett you just hope that "he'll remain health-free." That gave me a chuckle.
  2. I was just checking the waiver wire in one of my Fantasy Leagues and I just noticed Pedro's stats: Year Team INN GS W L S K BBI HA ERA WHIP 2009 PHI 23.0 5 3 0 0 23 3 22 3.52 1.09 What jumped out at me was 23 k's and 3 walks. His 1.09 WHIP jumped out at me too. Lesser league or not, these are really nice numbers. Can he be consistent, which is always the issue with a post surgical pitcher. I still wonder why the FO chose to pay Smoltz $5.5 million when Pedro was one year further removed from surgery and he'd pitched well in the WBC. Pedro would have to have been a better mid-year replacement than Byrd.
  3. He's not even dominating in the minors. This guy is going to turn out to be a bust--- the worst financial debacle in Red Sox history.
  4. Maybe he's sucking now because he has given up on the season. He's on the worst team in baseball. Motivation could be the issue. That could be a possibility. I don't think he lost his abilities in 3 weeks. He's still a better offensive player than AGon who looks like a blind man at the plate at times.
  5. He had some motivational issues when he was in the Red Sox organization. At the beginning of this season he was reportedly complaining openly in the clubhouse about being with the Marlins.
  6. You could pray for a Mets-like collapse to make things interesting.
  7. The Sox need to get Pedroia hitting. When he is slumping, they have a hard time scoring runs.
  8. Thank you VMart!!
  9. Their FO buried them when they shipped off Kazmir to dump salary.
  10. Tito had seen enough. Hmmm. Usually, he waits until the lead has been coughed up.
  11. Maybe a little less excitement about him after that bomb.
  12. Let's see what Wagner has today.
  13. That was not what I said. That was part of his resume, and he was a starter on 3 consecutive WS teams. That's different than being a starter for one year. Good teams are strong up the middle. A team that goes to the World Series three years in a row is strong up the middle. Their middle IF's may not have been offensive weapons, but they were certainly very good in their defensive roles. The A's with Henderson, McGwire, Canseco, and Lansford didn't need offense. Billy martin was the starting second baseman on several Yankee World Series teams. He was a light hitter, and he wasn't and All Star either, but I wouldn't conclude that he was garbage. He was a very good role player.
  14. Yanks losing 14-5 to Toronto. Mitre's ERA ballooned to over 7.
  15. He played 13 years in the majors and was the starting second baseman on 3 World Series team' date=' including one world championship. That's not garbage. He wasn't an All Star, but not garbage either.[/quote']
  16. Dammit! he hit it off the end of the bat to staight away CF.
  17. He should have.
  18. Nah, just until he starts being Pedroia again. That's entirely up to him. Right now he's playing like a Loretta clone.
  19. Nice bunt by Pedroia. Very Loretta-ish.
  20. Several other scouts did think his upside was Mark Loretta. Mike Gallego was an underrated player. He did last 13 years in the big leagues. I have admitted being wrong about Pedroia several times, but show me the predictions of Rookie of the Year and MVP in his first two years. Otherwise, pretty much everyone under-estimated the kid. It was just a matter of degree. He's easy to under-estimate. There is absolutely nothing impressive about him physically. He tiny, not fast and he has an average arm. It's what he's got inside that is special.
  21. 2-0 on the Mike Lowell HR, but he'll be benched tomorrow for Varitek... possibly even Kotchman.
