That was not what I said. That was part of his resume, and he was a starter on 3 consecutive WS teams. That's different than being a starter for one year. Good teams are strong up the middle. A team that goes to the World Series three years in a row is strong up the middle. Their middle IF's may not have been offensive weapons, but they were certainly very good in their defensive roles. The A's with Henderson, McGwire, Canseco, and Lansford didn't need offense. Billy martin was the starting second baseman on several Yankee World Series teams. He was a light hitter, and he wasn't and All Star either, but I wouldn't conclude that he was garbage. He was a very good role player.
