  1. Dye would be a fine option to platoon in LF. Ellsbury would become the full time CFer.
  2. It would surely be dedicated to Theo Epstein.
  3. Cameron has hit the DL with an abdominal tear-- a sort of sport hernia that might require surgery. He'll be out for some time. We can sign Dye without cutting Hermida. Thirty-seven year old CF's break down, and we have this chump for two years. We'll probably get 130 games out of him over the 2 years if we are lucky. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2010/04/cameron_to_dl.html
  4. Sign Jermaine Dye to give the offense a shot in the arm. Move Ellsbury back to CF and throw Hermida back on the Marlins garbage dump. This would have an immediate positive impact.
  5. Five games under .500 at thirteen games into the season and John Henry sees cause for concern. That's good enough for me. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2010/04/20/high_anxiety_as_even_red_sox_owner_henry_shows_concern/
  6. Gom is a very shrewd trader. He got the best of this deal by a long shot. Aardsma sucks and only contributes to one category. Granderson will help with runs, RBI, total bases and SB. The upgrade at first over Helton is not worht the hit taken on the other two-thirds of the deal.
  7. If they hadn't signed Cameron and Beltre, but signed Holliday instead they would have blown their budget but they are already paying a load for this group. They would have great starting pitching and great offense. Instead they are paying a fortune for a team with a glut at the infield corner spot (and the worst offensive player at third is getting most of the PT), and 1 or 2 good offensive outfielders. The team with Holliday would have been a playoff team. This $170 million collection of players will have a tough time getting the last play off spot. Spending $170 million to spend October at home will be a bitter pill to swallow when Holliday would have had a significant impact. We will have to suffer through this very expensive "bridge to nowhere" while arguing who should be getting PT at 1st and 3rd and DH-- Beltre, Lowell, Ortiz and VMart. This glut will result in VMart playing too many games behind the dish where he sucks defensively and Beltre playing too much 3B and he sucks offensively.
  8. Those are the stars of tomorrow? Lin? Kelly is the best talent of the whole group, but with Beckett, Lester, Lackey and Buccholz the future of the rotation seems secure. Who is going to replace Ortiz, Manny/Bay, and Lowell as offensive forces?
  9. This team is embarrassing itself.
  10. Cameron sucks, so it doesn't matter.
  11. By the Trading Dealine it should be completely obvious one way or the other.
  12. When I see that our 4th OFer is a discard fro mthe marlins and that our second lefty in the pen is Met reject, Scott Schoenweiss, I have serious concerns about the team. Those guys should not be showing up on the Red Sox opening day roster.
  13. Are fans over-reacting? Yes. This is a good team. I believe that it is poorly constructed, but it is strong enough in all aspects to be a contender. What has me pissed off is not the slow cold start, but the fact that they are giving away games through bad fundamentals and bad defense. That is inexcusable. They gave away two games this weekend to the Rays. Those games could decide the final playoff spot. That's just inexcusable, and that is not an over-reaction.
  14. This team is very poorly constructed other than strong starting pitching. There is no team speed outside of one guy. When Ortiz, VMart and Lowell are in the lineup, they have the speed of an over 40 softball team. Their team defense is average at best. The pathetic catching situation and the regular E-6 from Scutaro offset the rest of the defense. We have no scary big boppers in the middle of the lineup that will make the other guys better resulting in big run production. The bullpen is average, at best, with only 3 reliable arms. This goes a long way toward negating the strength of the starting pitching. If these short tenured guys like Beltre and Cameron are supposed to be a bridge to the future, would someone fill me in on the studs who are expected to arrive here in 2012.
  15. It just worked out that way. I can't claim that i planned any of it, not even the baseball strike. (BTW it was the 1981 strike). On my 25th wedding anniversary, I pitched for my softball team. The wife was pissed, but the other pitcher was out of town. We lost 4-3 and our tying run got thrown out at the plate in a situation like Friday night. It was a loser all the way around for me. I sent very nice flowers though.
  16. I went to the game so I heard none of the pre-game. Today's players are ridiculous with having their kids during the season. My kids were born October 30th and February 12th, and I got married during the baseball strike. They are very careless about their profession.
  17. I understand that the pitchers do not hold runners on, but Varitek takes for ever to release the ball, and VMart's arm makes Piazza look like Johnny Bench.
  18. Right now, I am in second-guessing mode. After the game, I will be whining. I am not used to making the trip here to see three losses in a row. More second guessing from me. We were talking before the start of the suspended game last night. Some of us would have gone to Papelbon at the start and then Bard for two innings. The game would have had to go 13 innings for MDC to get a chance to blow the game.
  19. Lowell's taller. He would have been looking at the ball from a different angle.
  20. If the team does not lose faith in Ortiz and cut him,he will lead this team in HRs and RBI by the end of the season. As for Gonzo, who on god's green earth do we have that we could use to get him?
  21. When he returns, what will the rotation be? I hate to say, but Wake has earned the spot. Dice K would not be effective out of the pen considering his high whip, and I'm not sure that Buccholz would be effective in the pen. I think we are out of options on Buccholz, so he can't be sent down.We could use a good long man in the pen.
