  1. I think Salty needs to prove that he is worthy of a major league spot at AAA before he is handed a job. If he proves himself at Pawtuckett, VMart can mentor him in 2012. Salty is not ready, and we don't know if he'll ever be ready. They should keep Vmart and Tek behind the plate.
  2. Ortiz has a higher Slugging percentage and OPS than Fielder. He'll have a much cheaper price tag than Fielder for a much shorter time commitment. The extra money could be used to sign VMart who could take a break from behind the plate to DH against the tougher lefties. VMart hits lefties much better than Fielder or Ortiz. On those days Tek, who still hits lefties pretty well, could man the plate.
  3. That could be. If that's the case, I'm not looking forward to Salty being the backup. I don't see that working out well.
  4. As I said, I just wanted to vent. I don't want anyone fired, except the Third Base coach Bogar. A stern talking to for Theo would be in order though if for no other reason than the fact Schoenweiss was on the 2010 team. I mean WTF was he thinking, That guys stinks.
  5. You are very funny. Send around a petition to get rid of the incompetent third base coach while you are at it. I am tired of his shenanigans. Also, change the petition about Theo. Don't petition to have him fired. Petition to have him given a stern warning. I think you are being too harsh on him
  6. ...and this proves that a good bullpen is irrelevant to winning? or what does it prove?
  7. Can't I vent just a bit after being eliminated to conclude a very frustrating season without being mocked by you? Theo will always be something of a folk hero for bringing home two championships, but he should not get a free ride and he should be judged by the results on the field, and he is not good at building bullpens. He has a record that has nothing to do with injuries, and he is not the only GM that is subject to volatile fluctuations when building a bullpen. They are all faced with that variable. Yet, the Yankees have a better record. Their bullpens are almost always in the middle of the pack or better. Somehow, they have managed the volatility better than the Sox.
  8. I liked Dave Wallace.
  9. Slugging was down from .602 to .482. That is not too shabby, but it is the lowest of his career. The .883 OPS is down from 1.014 and it is below his career average. Lastly, why would we spend a lot of money on Fielder when a supposedly washed up Ortiz exceeded Fielder's production ?
  10. If we go north with Tek and Salty as our two catchers, we will be in a heap of trouble. Tek is 38 and will be useful playing twice a week, mainly against lefties, but he can't handle a full load. It is debatable whether Salty is a legit major leaguer. Plus, he sucks beyond belief behind the plate.
  11. When you see Ortiz in person, you realize that he is a very big man, but not fat. Prince is fat.
  12. His skill set is very limited. He is below average in every aspect except maybe throwing arm. Today everyone has weak arms, so he is average in that capacity. He is small and will never have the power that you would want from a corner outfielder. My prediction is the minors for him in 2011 with no major league time followed by his release. If you want a Nava jersey, you had better get him now. It is amusing how many posters are rooting for this non-entity to make it with the Sox, while so many are willing to let Ortiz's production walk out the door.
  13. Doji will have to move on to his next discovery, because we have seen the last of this guy.
  14. It seems that a lot of the same people that wanted to DFA Ortiz in April are ready to let his production walk away next season. We road his back all season from May on, but people are so quick to write him off. Replacing 32 HRs and 100+ RBI is not going to be easy. If we did DFA Ortiz in April and replaced him with Daniel (1 HR) Nava, our offensive production really would have sucked. Because Ortiz is only a DH, he's probably the cheapest 30 HR 100 RBI guy we can find.
  15. Only 13.5% of the population is black (including those of more than one race). I don't think this is limited to African Americans. The African American population is more heavily skewed to the southern state. The percentage in Mass is around only 8%, so even if representative percentages show up at the ballpark it would still be like Where's Waldo. http://www.infoplease.com/spot/bhmcensus1.html
  16. The 2010 Red Sox are 13-19 in games decided in the final AB.
  17. With a .245 and only 1 HR coming on his first major league pitch, I think Nava will be back in the Independent league before the end of 2011. He is Morgan Burkhart. Check out their stats. They are almost identical except Burkhart had a few more HRs. Both started like a house on fire, but ended up hitting in the .240's after 150 ABs. If he makes our opening day roster, I will take up golfing.
  18. Another bullpen special.
