1. Giving a two year contract to a 37 year old CF is never a good idea. Hopefully, he can stay healthy enough to be a productive 4th OFer who can play about 100 games with about 350 ABs. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2011/03/cameron_remains.html
2. Gonzo sighting at City of Palms Park on Tuesday. Is that Mrs. Gonzo with him? Also spotted Dice K arriving pretty late-- around 12:30. He had a press contingent with him. It is very unusual for a player to be arriving that late.
3. The word is that he'll be playing next week. I had a Gonzo sighting today and got a picture which I'll post tomorrow.
4. I've been in Ft. Myers for a couple of days. Here's some initial reactions and thoughts: Jed Lowrie is looking noticeably stronger and more fit Beckett is looking like he also did some serious physical training in the off-season Kalish has the best OF arm that the Sox have had in years. He made two great throws today-- one to third and a pea to home plate. He also had 3 hits including a double and single to the opposite field. Youkilis's hand seems fully healed and healthy as he is hitting everything extremely hard. Pedroia is moving fine. He attempted a steal today. The foot doesn't seem to be a concern. Mat Albers sucks
5. I have never seen Montero catch, but it sounds like he has a long, long way to go in developing his defensive game. The other day the Yankee announcing crew was praising him for looking more comfortable behind the plate. They were talking about crouching behind the plate and positioning himself. They said that he looked more confident back there. I thought that was a very odd compliment, and that must mean that he is atrocious with regard to meaningful catching skills. Saying that a catcher has improved his crouch is like saying that a batter looks more comfortable holding his bat. It's meaningless. Also please stop using this space to aid the Yankee FO propaganda campaign for their young minor league pitching. None of them are ready for prime time. They are not even close and most will not accomplish anything beyond a cup of coffee at the major league level. Stop spinning the propaganda. You and I know that they are nothing more than Yankee FO media creations. Major league GMs had better not be fooled by that fact if they don't want to be royally ripped off at the trading dead line.
6. Kyle Weiland, the former Notre Dame closer doesn't seem to have much command of any of his pitches. I don't think we will be seeing him at Fenway any time soon.
7. Prior looks awesome too.
8. More from the Yankee spin machine.
9. f***ing Yankee spin machine is methodically building up their farm kids. This is so typical, and no one does it better than the skanks. Everyone in the organization must have talking point about these kids. At the trading deadline, they'll probably package up three of those bags of s*** for a top of the rotation starter. I hope the other MLB GMs realize just how full of s*** the Yankees are about these kids. On a bright note, Cervelli broke his foot. We will not have to look at that idiot for the first month of the season.
10. If he is lucky, he'll replace the peanut vendor at Fenway when he decides to step down. That guy is deadly accurate and he has a quick release. I often think that he could throw out more base runners with a bag of peanuts than our catchers do on pitch-outs.
11. I'll bet that the stupid ass that hit his daughter was uninsured. That's what happened to me and my wife last August. Some idiot came barreling into stopped traffic where 91 goes into 84 demolishing the pickup truck behind me and my SUV. Everyone had to go to the hospital. Of course the idiot that caused the accident, who had to be cut from her flipped over van, had no injuries and no insurance.
12. Thank goodness they can play ball, cause that is a room full of ugly dudes.
13. I could do the 13th, but not the 12th.
14. Where will you be staying in Ft. Myers?
15. I twisted nothing. I asked for a clarification. Note the question mark after my statement. I didn't know that asking for clarification was a tactic.
16. Registered and Paid.
17. So, ARod is a better source for this type of information than Theo?
18. My point wasn't to tell a personal story, and I don't care if you care. The point is if I am going to hold my brother accountable for his actions with alcohol, I am not going to make excuses for Cabrera. He has a problem with alcohol, and he should get help, but let's not blame the alcohol for him hitting his wife. He is accountable for that. I don't care what demons he is battling what culture he comes from or his life experiences.
19. The union makes the same claims throughout every collectively bargaining negotiation. I'm not going to research something that I already know. I'm not interested in getting you to agree with me. No offense, but it's my opinion based on what I have read and heard that MLB has been hiding its finances. It doesn't matter to me whether others agree. When MLB was talking about eliminating a few franchises (i.e contraction), the Union went nuts and demanded that MLB open its books. To my knowledge MLB never opened its books, but it backed off on the contraction idea. You are right that MLB's hiding it's finances is not direct proof that MLB has more $, but why maintain this legal fight is they don't have more money. Why would they protect the information when the accurate information would support their public stance with union? There's little chance that they are hiding it because they have less $.
20. Where do I get this stuff from? MLB Players Union has been screaming for years about MLB not opening its books. More is disclosed today, but not what the MLB union would like to see. Don't ask me. Write to the MLB Players Union and ask them.
