  1. Yanks opener will probably get rained out.
  2. Lester chokes in big games.
  3. He's working on the secondary pitches. If he can't get to the point where he can throw quality strikes with them, he'll be in trouble.
  4. The theory with keeping these guys is to buy some time and hope that a couple of them pan out. I just don't think there is any possibility of Albers or Wakefield being productive. I'd cut ties with them and let Aceves and Oki start the season with the big club. If they don't pan out, they'll need to look elsewhere. Wakefield and Albers are not depth, unless you are measuring garbage.
  5. and the whining begins.
  6. Keeping Wakefield and Albers is not pitching depth. One is a "has been", ant the other is a "never was". The should stop deluding themselves about these guys and just cut ties with them.
  7. The Mayor's Cup drama is a tongue in cheek thing by Remy and Francona. I have been going to Spring Training for 8 years. There is no rivalry between the Twins fans and the Sox fans. No one talks or cares about the Mayor's cup. The crowds are very low key, and they expect the regulars to leave the games after 6 innings and to watch a bunch of kids. Winning is not a do or die prospect in Ft. Myers.
  8. Dice K looked good again.
  9. I expect that Wakefield will be cut by the middle of May.
  10. The Top moments of games that I attended: 1. Carl Yastrzemski Day- 1983- Not many people know it, but Yaz spontaneously decided to take a lap around Fenway shaking hands with fans. Until then, players routinely took their laps in automobiles or golf carts. It was totally out of character for Yaz who was a very private, shy man that never sought attention or showed emotion. 2. July 27, 1975 -- Double Header sweep of the Yankees 1-0 and 6-0. Fred Lynn saved game one with a late-inning diving, sliding catch of a Craig Nettles bases loaded drive that would have been a sure triple. 3. Jacoby Ellsbury's steal of home against the Yankees in 2009. 4. David Ortiz' walkoff homer on Easter Sunday 2004. 5. Trot Nixon's Game-winning homer off Clemens in his Yankee Stadium duel with Pedro. 6. Nick Green's walkoff windblown homer around the Pesky Pole on Father's Day 2009. 7. July 4, 1973 Double Header sweep of the Yankees at the original Yankee Stadium-- 2-1 and 1-0. In game 1, Ray Culp earned the final win of his career. 8. Ortiz 3-run walk-off HR with 2 outs and 2 strikes against Texas in 2006 for a 5-4 win. 9. 2009 - Papelbon striking out Carlos Pena, B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford in a row with the tying run on 3rd base and the go ahead run on 2nd. My recollection is that all the strikes were swinging strikes and there was only one foul ball. 10. Daniel Nava's Grand Slam HR against the Phillies in 2010 on the first pitch he saw in the majors. Edit: Added the games in bold. I must be brain dead. I forgot my one number 1.

  12. Maybe you are right. I thought it was 7. Hopefully, Tito will not increase it to 7.
  13. In the Post-Game Press Conference, Josh says he felt good. Jeesh! He has developed a decent pick-off move to first base.
  14. Bard and Papelbon have both been getting cuffed around this spring. I hope this stops when the opening bell rings.
  15. Beckett's line: 6 IP, 11 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 1 HR, 1 HPB. He has a 6.64 ERA in 20.1 innings this spring.
  16. He hit the first batter in the top of the 7th before he was removed. That runner came around to score. I thought that was the 7th run.
  17. At least Tito is in mid-season form-- allowing Beckett to give up 7 runs. That's the magic number for Tito. Reyes is pitching his way off the team.
  18. On the bright side, he has given up only 11 hits.
  19. Beckett -- 6 runs in 6 innings so far.
  20. Beckett giving no indication that the sucking will end.
  21. Probably every bit of useless information about baseball from 1967-79.
