    Having worked in the tax area for over 30 years, I like to watch people’s heads explode when I tell them that Corporate income tax is a farce. There shouldn’t be any corporate income tax. It all gets passed through to the customer. If Corporate taxes go up and people cheer about the fat cats paying, they don’t realize that those taxes will be addressed by cost cutting (i.e. jobs) or product price increases passed onto the customer. Their profit margin remains unaffected. It all gets passed onto the consumer. There should be a national sales tax. Transactions of all types should be taxed and there should be no income tax. That would be the fairest and most transparent system. What we have now is a confusing mess that politicians and demagogues use to pander to their constituencies.

    I am sure that they tried to trade him at a reduced price, and again this consolation is like the people who look for losses at the end of the tax year for tax purposes. It's a loss... a loss should never be the goal.

    That's little consolation. It's like people who complain about capital gains because they have to pay taxes. I always tell them that no one goes broke from making a profit, and profits are better than non-taxable losses. Castillo falls into the loss category. That he isn't counted toward luxury tax is little consolation. It just illustrates that he is such a bust that they could move him off the 40 man roster without anyone claiming him -- not even at a discount.

    His salary would be an extra $10 million/year to pay the Luxury Tax.

    Two years of Benny for $10 million and they pay Rusney Castillo $10 million/year for 7 years and he is stuck in mothballs in the minor leagues. Thanks Ben.

    I think the organization is very confused about their culture right now. Lately, the behavior of the organization has been inconsistent and erratic.

    So they got a damaged prospect foisted upon them.

    But we could have watched one of the All-Time great Red Sox players for another season and had a better chance of being competitive in 2020. We lose Betts for 2020 and the FO has decided to throw in the towel on the season before it starts. 2020 should be a blast. It's March 13th, pitchers and catchers are reporting and they have a gaping hole in the rotation. I guess bloom thinks he will fill that hole by rolling out one garbage can after another on the 5th day. That isn't going to work.

    The whole sign stealing scandal is dumb. It's part of the game, but you can't use electronics to do it? What if I have a front row seat at Fenway and the TV monitor is right in front of me and I start calling out the signs to the Red Sox batters? They need to go to a system like football. Let the pitchers and catchers communicate electronically. There would be no signs to steal. They are debating robo umps, but electronic communication between pitchers and catchers is a no-brainer.

    I know that some of you guys have pre-teen kids who like baseball. When I walk my dog, at times kids wearing Red Sox hats or shirts come over to greet the dog. I always ask them who is their favorite player. Almost every single time, the answer is Mookie Betts. Many of them are easy to identify, because they are wearing Betts shirts. It remind me of when my son was that age in the late 90's and all the kids loved Nomar. When the Sox traded Nomar, he was 30 yrs old and physically shot. Those kids who are Mookie fans are crushed.

    I wouldn’t hold my breath on Mookie coming back. The point is valid that it is very rare. Edit: Plus Mookie will find that Boston is small, overpriced and hard to get around. There are much better places to live.

    Dewey will be at Fort Myers for the duration of Spring Training. This year, I will be there at the beginning for a week. Last year, Iortiz, Dewey and I took in a couple of games together. It was a lot of fun. I missed out on seeing John Tudor last year. He is friends with the guy who sits behind Dewey. Drop us a line when you get there if for nothing more than to say hello.

    Vindicated? The larger point stands. It almost never happens. Also, she didn’t say that it never happened. She just said that she couldn’t find one.

    I think Bloom will add some pieces before opening day. If not, the season will be an obvious tank and ticket sales will suffer.
