I am so old that I knew that if I couldn't remember a worse season for a Sox pitcher that it must be historic. And it is.

Ortiz has soft hands in the field-- better than Prince Fielder. He has a good accurate arm and good footwork around the bag. He doesn't have much range and he wouldn't make a lot of acrobatic diving plays. I never feel insecure when we have to put him in the field.

Lackey sucks so bad. We're at the half way point of the season and this guy has an ERA at around 7.5. He may be the worst train wreck that I have seen take the mound for the Red Sox in my lifetime, and I have seen some s***** pitchers. 7.5 is almost total futility. They need to DL him and get him away from Fenway. They should see what Millwood can do. He was been pitching very well in AAA. he can't be worse than Lackey. Give Millwood 2-3 starts. If he sucks, DFA him. If he is good send Lackey for surgery or shock therapy or something. I'm glad that interleague is over and Tito is managing to the 7 run rule again. It was obvious that lackey was serving up BP. Why keep him in for 7 runs. If he pulls him after the 5th run, we still have a chance to win. You almost never climb out of an 7-0 hole. I love Tito, but I cannot defend his game strategy. He manages the game like an idiot. D-McD needs to go. He is just a bush leaguer, but Terry has a soft spot for him. We need some DieHard Sox fans to kidnap him and hold him in a cellar until the season is over.

There aren't a lot of teams looking to add $6-8 million in payroll for 3 months. The owners are facing losing control of their team if they can't repay $200 million in 2 years. They need the $ not the prospects.

I am concerned with Buchholz's lingering back issue.

If the Sox eat his salary... maybe, but I doubt it.

You must have missed my 1,000 other posts about how Beltran will cost $ not prospects. If the Sox pick up the whole salary, they will be able to include prospects who have no prospects.

I think the point to be made is that an injured worn down Martin having an off year is still better than Salty. If Martin had been on the Sox with Tek as his backup, he would not have been overworked like he ha been in NY and he would have continued to play at the level at which he started the season. The major point to be made here is that it is not a Salty vs. Martin debate, because we could have had them both. Salty would have been getting another year of seasoning in AAA ready to come up at a moments notice if Marin got injured. Getting Martin would have deprived the Yankees of a very useful piece of their team. Replacing him would not have been easy. Those who debate Salty vs. Martin are missing the point entirely.
