  1. I'm not a huge Heath Bell fan. He didn't have a good year until age 31. He is no replacement for Papelbon.
  2. If he doesn't pay Beltran's salary, someone else will. Prospects will not get the job done.
  3. Close call, but is there an All Star pitcher who would be available for little more than money. Plus, we'd have have more competition for pitching than for Beltran.
  4. CC is a dominant horse of a pitcher. He deserved to make the All Star team without a doubt, and he will be in Cy Young contention at seasons end.
  5. I thought they had insured his contract if he can't come back. Even if he does come back, they still have $26 million-- plenty to sign Reyes.
  6. $14 million for Drew, $8 million for Cameron, $6 million for Dice K and $8 million for Scutaro. That's $32 million without dropping Ortiz or Papelbon. My math was off. $32 million should be enough to get Reyes-- way more than enough.
  7. They'll have $40 million to spend. They should do what it will take to sign him.
  8. It will weaken their line up considerably. Tex and/or Cano will see fewer good pitches to hit.
  9. Personally, I hope he has to have his leg ampuitated, because he is a great player on the Yankees. I could care less whether his contract is a good deal or a bad deal. For all we know, it is insured against injury.
  10. Getting him should be a no-brainer for the Red Sox.
  11. Salty would provide little protection for Ortiz. Reddick is a good prospect for the future, but Beltran is available, and he is a bona fide proven ML star.
  12. The only thing that could be more boring than men's soccer is inferior soccer.
  13. He's just a kid that is far from ML ready. His debut was at best forgettable even if the defense had been better. He's not worth any discussion except maybe as an indicator of how deep the Sox are having to go into their organization to find guys to fill out the rotation right now. To me it indicates a significant need to make a move.
  14. Drew is actually getting worse as the season progresses. I don't see him rebounding in the second half.
  15. At the All Star Break, J.D. Drew is hitting .229. Only a big power hitter can hold onto his job with an average like that. J.D. Is not that guy. There is just no defending his performance this year. I don't think that he is going to snap out of this and get hot. It's time to make a move.
