    I was hoping Wakefield would step up today to be able to claim one of the two open rotation spots until Buch comes back. With the remainder of Buch's 2011 being so uncertain, the bottom two spots could be black holes of disaster, and the third spot is dependent on Lackey continuing his progress. I see no choice but for Theo to get a starter by the deadline.

    Those World Series banners are forever. I have seen thousands of prospects come and go and a small percentage of them have made any memorable impact, of that small percentage that became stars and they number in the hundreds. They come and go. The Championships are rare and they are forever. If we trade the next Ken Griffey Jr to get a piece to help us win a championship, I am okay with that.

    Gardner just played a fly out into a double. He had two more steps to the wall but didn't know where he was in his home ball park... but the metrics say otherwise.

    They could sign a right handed OFer to help Kalish in a platoon situation until he gets comfortable and consistent. maybe a Jeff Francoeur type.

    I agree. It shortens games and makes the manager's job much easier.

    Livan Hernandez? Goodness! And he accuses me of judging players by their past. The Sox should bring up Millwood before the deadline to see if he has anything to contribute. If he has nothing left, they should pursue Dempster.

    Still Beltran. In 2012, Kalish and Reddick can compete for RF. We don't need Pence long term. We need Beltran short term.

    It was one of the few games that Ortiz has missed other than interleague games, and it was yesterday-- easy to remember. We also underperformed today without Ortiz. Arieta has a 5+ ERA and the O's pen sucks. Yet, we only got 4 runs.

    Pulling out a key piece from a lineup in a short series is very hard to overcome. It doesn't matter who the opponent would be. Ortiz makes the guys around him better. The whole dynamic of the lineup changes without him. A lineup with Reddick, Salty, Scutaro and the pitcher as the bottom 4 is much less fearsome. Beltran would help immensely.

    Not with Ortiz sitting on the bench. We have trouble with Guthrie when Ortiz is sitting.
