If he Sox make it to the World Series, they will lose Ortiz's bat for 3 or 4 games. That would significantly impact the offense as we saw during interleague play. They need to add a big offensive bat to offset that loss.

Yes. I don't want Garza for the rest of his contract. I'd rather have Beltran for a couple of months. We've got enough pitching to get to the playoffs, and we have three top aces to get us through the playoffs. We need a big bat to make up for the loss of papi in the NL park if we get to the Series.

It's amazing that people who never met the man condemn him based on some stuff they've read or heard. The misconceptions about him abound as if they are fact. One misconception is that he was a southerner. He was born on Park Ave in NYC. Lived most of his young adult life in Detroit. I think you would be hard pressed to find an African American who played for Yawkey who didn't like the man.

The Mets will not get any draft picks for Beltran. He is not arbitration eligible. The Mets have to move him or they will get nothing.

I know CJ Wilson is having a good year, but I don't think it is a great idea to give a long term deal to a guy that has had a single good year.

I'm not a huge Heath Bell fan. He didn't have a good year until age 31. He is no replacement for Papelbon.

If he doesn't pay Beltran's salary, someone else will. Prospects will not get the job done.
