  1. The Sox wouldn't match 4yrs/$50 million. Fools!!!
  2. 1:42pm: The sides have agreed to a four-year deal that approaches $50MM in value, according to Salisbury (on Twitter).
  3. Ben has manged to ruin this weekend. Please go get the GM from Tampa.
  4. Madsen sucks.
  5. Are you joking. It's all over the place. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/extras/extra_bases/2011/11/report_papelbon_2.html http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/phillies-to-sign-jonathan-papelbon-.html
  6. A great player.
  7. Who was the genius here that was preaching patience by the posters? I thought teams don't make big moves until Thanksgiving or so it was posted. We should be happy that Ben is carefully considering his strategy. I guess Philadelphia didn't get the memo, or they just don't agree with the after Thanksgiving timeline.
  8. If people on this board thought i was tough on Theo, wait until you see how I excoriate Ben for letting the an elite closer and the best closer in Red Sox history walk at age 30. Ben makes no ofer or counter offer? Really? I can hardly wait to see the jerk that he gets to hold down the 8th inning if Bard is moving to the closer spot. Bard will probably become unhinged by June 15th from the pressures of closing in Boston.
  9. This blows!!!
  10. I firmly believe that you don't trade an everyday star for a pitcher. If I did it, it would have to be for the best most dominant young arm out there, i.e Verlander, and i would not be thrilled to do it. BTW, I am not sure why you say "2 more years of Ellsbury." I realize that he will be a FA, but it's not like the guys on your list have perpetually renewing contracts. We will not have them indefinitely.
  11. I live on Long Island and work in NYC. I was raised in Brooklyn, and my dad and uncles were all Brooklyn Dodger fans. I will be going to Ft. Myers in March (17-24). You mentioned the Red Sox Destinations trips. i took one of their trips-- when Jim Rice got inducted into Cooperstown. They do a very good job.
  12. Cain will cost big bucks and Ellsbury. That's not any bargain. I don't think Ben should give up Ellsbury for any pitcher whose name is not Verlander and Verlander is not for sale. Jackson is not close to the caliber of Cain, but he would be a #4 or 5. He is very consistent in that he takes the ball every start every season. We haven't had anyone in the 5 hole like that since Arroyo. It is a bullpen and staff saver to have a #5 that takes 33-35 turns. His performance is not that inconsistent. I think he has been improving and he is still only 28 yrs old.
  13. I think that is a pretty good plan, but I would also try converting Bard to a starter. I like a rotation of Beckett, Lester, Buchholz, Jackson and Bard. I'd slide Aceves into the 8th inning slot.
  14. I've been going to Ft. Myers every year since 2004. I'm looking forward to the new ballpark in 2012.
  15. If they kill Wakefield and Varotek that would be 2 less things that I'd have to worry about.
  16. I would not trade an everyday star for a pitcher, almost never ever. I might make an exception for Verlander. I think we could fit Jackson under the cap. Otherwise, I blow throw the cap.
  17. Not before July.
  18. I think it should be painfully obvious to all of us that Theo left this team in a bad budget bind. The owners will have a dilemna. They'll have to decide whether to stay within the constraints of the luxury tax limits and go salary neutral in their moves. If they choose that path, I truly think we will not be watching any meaningful baseball in September. Their alternative is not an easy one- break out the money go over the cap and make a strong run at the post season. Personally, I hope they do the latter. I don't think JH wants to finish out of the post season for a 3rd year in a row.
  19. With over 700 consecutive sell outs, I don't think the FO has to worry about making decisions to appease fans. We haven't exactly formed a protest mob and decided to Occupy Landsdowne Street or Yawkey Way. Unfortunately, the Red Sox have only 3 starting pitchers and their farm system is not going to produce any starters in 2012, so what are their alternatives besides acquiring starting pitching through free agency or trade? I'm not seeing any alternatives.
  20. I'm not joking. I'm mocking Joe Pa and Penn State.
  21. They took away his keys? Wow!! That's some tough love. Please pardon the tasteless pun.
  22. Where was it available?
