    That Yaz that played hurt and healed while playing was the MVP of the playoffs against the 3 time defending champion Oakland A's. He made some unbelievable defensive plays and he hit something like .450 including a key HR against Vida Blue. Without Yaz, they don't' even get to the WS. Sitting out longer wasn't going to make the long term healing any more complete. Anyone who has had a bad sprained ankle could tell you that it is never the same. So, yeah I am happy that Yaz toughed it out and played through his injury, because without him we would have missed watching the 1975 World Series, and he played pretty darn well in that WS too. As for 1978, Yaz's backup was likely to be Pot-Bellied Bob Bailey. Ten percent of Yaz was better than Bailey. I am glad Yaz taped up and went out and hit a second inning HR against the untouchable 25-3 Ron Guidry and he got another knock against Gossage. There was no one on the bench who could have done that for the team. You just don't know what you are talking about when you talk about Yaz.

    When you miss major parts of 2 of the last 3 season in just a 5 year career, you have earned the designation of "injury prone.". Does that mean that he is a wimp? No, there's no reason to single him out. They are all pampered princesses who will not return to play until trhey are 100% healed. If he could play at 60%, he'd be 50% better than Marlon Byrd or Lin. Thatks why the old-timers played hurt, because the healthy replacements were not as good as the injured stars. Today it is all about the individual and not the team. It's about the next contract, not winning. At this point, I am pretty sure that Ellsbury and Crawford could be playing. The sore elbow thing by CC kills me. How many high stress throws does he have to make each game? Are they fragile? No, they are pampered.

    He is this season's John Lackey. With each outing I am getting less hopeful of this guy turning it around.

    Punto has played limited OF, but more than Aviles. I hate Punto's weak arm at SS.

    We should have some interest. Between Bard and Buchholz, one of those guys may need to be dropped from the rotation very soon.

    They need to make an acquisition. There is too long a period of time before Ells or CC come back. We can't make do with Byrd, Sweeney, Lin and Nava. That is just horrible.

    I don't think you can get much more for Youk at this point until he re establishes himself.
