  1. It annoys me when people give excuses to the FO regarding Yankee money. Sure they have more money but look at some of their value acquisitions for their bench. Eric Chavez $900 k Ibanez $1.1 m Ichiro 2.0 m A. Jones $2.0 m Total $ 6.0 m Look at our bench Sweeney $1.75 m DMac 506 k Byrd 400 k Nava 480 k Pods 480 k Lillibridge 500 k Punto 1.5 m Total $ 5.6 m Look at the difference in production for $500 k more. We need to stop whining about Yankee money. Our FO is not in their league.
  2. I have been noticing him since last season. This guy was a great 3rd baseman offensively and defensively. We pick up Aviles and the Yanks got Chavez. The contrast is so stark. How anyone can think our FO has done anything other than an incompetent job just makes me shake my head.
  3. Give it a rest? Drop dead. It's the first time I ever posted anything about Gonzalez being in the Sox system. His numbers while in our system for 2 years were markedly the worst of his career. The Sox have also had little success in developing major league pitchers. If you would like to discuss that, fin. Otherwise, save your snark ******** for someone else.
  4. Watching this series has made me take note of some of the roster filler/spare parts on the Yankee team. I look at Ibanez and Ichiro. These 2 guys are veterans who had been really good players in their primes. Ichiro had been great. They are at the end of their careers but they can still be very effective in certain roles. Ibanez can obviously still put a charge into a ball. Ichiro can still field, throw and run with the best of them. He produced a run at the plate where the throw beat him by 10 feet. During the season, Andruw Jones played a nice role- he shredded our lefty pitching. These guys were not expensive. Ryan Sweeney and his 0 HRs makes more than 50% more than Ibanez. For a very small payroll commitment, the Yankees have 3 good experienced professional backup outfielders. Compare that to the garbage we were rolling out there this season-- Darnell MacDonald, Ryan Sweeney, Podsednik, Nava and that bum from the Cubs who got bused for PEDs. I don't think we spent much less for this huge bag of trash than the Yanks spent on 3 solid profeSsionals. As I said last night, our back up OFers couldn't hit the ball that far if they were hitting from second base. I have to wonder if our guys are just playing video games in their offices, because the Yankee FO runs circles around our guys. The Red Sox FO is embarrassingly amateurish compared to the Yankees organization. Unless Baltimore build on this season, the Yanks should just keep running off Division Championships, because with the PawSox masquerading as major leaguers, the AL East is really no longer a strong division, and the MFYs should easily out class the field for years to come unless something drastic happens on Yawkey Way. Great job by the FO. I have to stop watching this series, because these comparisons are constantly running through my head.
  5. It's also pretty impressive that Jeter refuses to sit when he is limping like a wounded warhorse. Their aren't too many like him in my memory. No one plays with a limp today. They just don't. He's every bit as tough as Yaz, and that is the highest possible compliment I can pay him. That being said, I hate his guts.
  6. Welcome to TalkSox!!!
  7. I'd be shocked if he would be the best pitcher on his own team. I'd be surprised if he is the second best pitcher on his own team.
  8. I give him credit. He's 40 and coming up with big hits, and I give the Yankees FO credit for signing a guy like this for little more than $1 million.
  9. The Yankees are paying Ibanez a whopping $1.1 million to hit 19 HRS as a part timer and 3 late inning post season HRs up to this point. The Red Sox paid Ryan Sweeney $1.75 million for 0 HRs.
  10. More reasons to hate the Orioles. *******s!!
  11. Ibanez again. f***!!!
  12. I have yet another reason to hate Jim Johnson.
  13. Someone will take Robertson deep.
  14. The people who would be surprised would be the Giants fans. I work with a couple of life long Giants fans who told me they thought the Giants should have sold high on him last off season, because his velocity was down so much. That being said, a change of league might give him a renewed life for a limited period. After talking to those guys all season long, I would be very surprised if he were to win the CY award next season.
  15. I really hope that by Thanksgiving we are talking about players a lot more interesting than our minor league pitching. Good God, the notion of these guys on the MLB team makes me depressed. Speaking of minor leaguers, our FO really dropped the ball on this guy Gonzalez. We almost wrecked his career with our great player development department and now the guy is lights out.
  16. Our 4th OFers Nava and Sweeney couldn't hit that many HRs if they were batting from second base.
  17. How many times has Raul Ibanez done that recently. It's f***ing nauseating.
  18. Yep, you are right about that. It's just amazing to me that the FO thought he was a suitable full time SS.
  19. The Royals' teams tha Aviles was on was chock full of chumps, and he couldn't start at any position. I believe they sent him back to the minors at some point. If we are going to rebuild our team with KC bench warmers, we will suck for a long time.
  20. Aviles wasn' good enough to win a starting job for the Royals. He is a utility type player, and not a very good one. Scutaro is a far superior utility guy, who is more proficient at ore positions and much steadier at the plate, but apparently he is too expensive for our budget.

  22. I don't think we know enough about anxiety disorders to make that conclusion. Boston may not be a good fit for him, but it may not be because of a bout with anxiety that he had several years ago with no recurrence. It is still this season until the World Series is over. As for the sig bet, start at this post and work your way through the thread. http://www.talksox.com/forum/talk-sox-forum/16635-youk-white-sox-7.html#post775895 I think keeping a sig written by me until the end of 2012 would be reasonable.
  23. Making adjustments to meet expectations created by the Press in the case of Gonzo and Crawford can screw up a guy's game, but that has nothing to do with anxiety. An anxiety disorder is another whole ball of wax. Gonzo and Crawford were not playing nervous. I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding of anxiety disorders and a lot of people are making conclusions about Greinke's situation without any expertise or knowledge about the subject. I have said before that they should certainly explore whether he has a personality which will allow him to thrive in Boston. I don't think any of us, Jacko included, know about his bout with anxiety, which has been managed for several years and he has thrived in a profession where he is the focal point of attention each time he performs. BTW, When are we going to settle the sig bet?
  24. Gonzo hit just fine before the All Star Break in 2011. His HR outage was more likely a result of a bad shoulder than the Boston Press. His power stroke did not reappear in LA.
