  1. I don't think anyone hates him. They just hate the debate whether he is an MLB talent.
  2. Cabrera is a beast.
  3. Good luck Terry. http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/sports/pros_and_colleges/x21086657/Guardians-hire-former-Red-Sox-manager-Francona http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8470798/terry-francona-new-manager-cleveland-Guardians
  4. Miggy Cabrera is a total beast.
  5. You are going to call a season in which Sweeney hit 0 HRs a career year. You maybe fudging on this one.
  6. I'll have 70,000 posts by then and most of the current members will have moved onto other stuff, college adulthood etc. Looking at the current rosters of the teams in the playoffs, each has 50%, usually more, players from outside the organization obtained through trades or free agency, including many of their star players. Like it or not, we will not get back to the playoffs solely through the draft. We will have to acquire players by trades and free agency and they will not all be cheap. If they are good, they will cost $ or top prospects or maybe both. I agree that a bullpen is a priority, but those can be built and rebuilt in a shorter time horizon than a rotation. I think that has to be a continuing focus for 2-3 years. It could bear early fruti, because pitching is the most important aspect of the game.
  7. Reality sucks. I don't think I did any better. Had AGon penciled in for 35 HRs/
  8. You keep saying this, and I keep asking how would you go about rebuilding the team and what would be your time horizon for getting back to being a playoff team? __________________
  9. Hey, Fred is back! They called you negative for predicting a second place finish and for saying that Bard was finished when he got demoted. You were way to optimistic.
  10. It is just for the fun of it. Looking back, the thread makes me laugh. Aren't you a fun guy Bell? I expect predictions from you this year. Don't be a stick in the mud or worse a coward.
  11. BTW, I am thinking about your sig for losing the bet. PM me if you have any suggestions.
  12. Okay, good. I just don't want to see you setting yourself up to get crushed by disappointment.
  13. It was fun re-reading this thread. Wow, people thought Fred was too negative and he was predicting a 2nd place finish. One poster would have been a perfect 0- fer 15 if the Sox hadn't finished 5th in runs scored. BTW: Those of you who didn't make predictions are gutless cowards.
  14. And we bought last place. How stupid is our team that it cost them $174 million? Most teams finish last for a lot less. We seriously overpaid.
  15. You are starting to get over-enthusiatic very early. Can we wait until Spring Training before we start penciling this guy in the rotation?
  16. Funny how it turned out.
  17. Here's the outcome on this bet: White Sox WAR Kevin Youkilis 1.1 Red Sox WAR Zach Stewart -0.7 Lillibridge -0.3 $2 million 1.0 Total WAR 0.0 I win.
  18. It looks like I won this sig bet. You really need to stay away from sig bets.
  19. I watched a lot of the Jays games the last two years. His teams were very unsound fundamentally and they ran the bases recklessly. I had heard the same evaluations from our broadcasters and the Yankee broadcasters. We don't need this guy, especially if we have to provide compensation.
  20. And pass up the opportunity to land Zach Stewart and Brent Lillishit?
  21. Shoppach sucks. Murphy has made a nice career for himself in Texas. The Gagne trade is a universally acknowleged bust. VMart did a really nice job for the Sox while he was here. Masterson is still looking to find himself. Melancon blows chunks, but Lowrie was never going to be more than a good utility guy because he can't stay on the field. The Bailey trade is looking like it could be just as bad as the Gagne trade. Two trades were really bad. If we reversed all 5, we'd still stink, plus we would have stunk in 2008 and 2009 without VMart. We'd have had 5 lousy years instead of 3.
  22. They don't pu the fear of god in a pitcher, but the facts are the facts. During the first half, the had the best pitching in the league. In the second half their pitching was 4th in the league. Their hitting was last in runs scored in the first half, but first in the second half. It was the offense that turned that team around in the second half. They were .500 in the first half with the best pitching and worst hitting. In the second half when they had the 4th best pitching and an offense that outscored everyone, they were 26 games over .500. They had guys that could knock the ball out of the park. Reddick hit more than 30 HRs. Their first base platoon hit 37 HRs. Cespedes is a probably their most solid offensive player. I had to look twice at the numbers, because they were very surprising. Last to first in offense from the first half to the second half. That is astounding.
  23. Piersall had a pretty good career in Boston. The other guys you mentioned did not have personalities suited to Boston. They did not have any mental disorders, except Carl Everett who was a flat out nut. Most players that have an anxiety issues who work thru it to enjoy success don't usually have the problem interfere with their careers again. Greinke is an example. He's been traded twice and thrived. Getting traded and uprooting your life is a high stress life event. Votto is another example, and so is J.J. Hardy. If his personality doesn't fit Boston that would be important to know, but personality has no connection with an anxiety disorder which has obviously been managed and overcome.
