  1. Those are the keys. In the past several years we have suffered more than our share of injuries. Maybe this year the injury bug won't bite us too hard.
  2. I don't think it is too shocking that Lester and Buch have bounced back, especially in light of the Spring Training that they had. They have done better than bounce back this far. They are off to the best starts of their careers. The real shocker has been how well the third thru fifth slots have performed. We just need those guys to be healthy and make their starts to be competitive. If they keep performing like this, it could be a very fun season.
  3. He's the best since Dewey. Evans had the stronger arm but Victorino has better range. He gets great jumps and goes back on balls as good as anyone that I have seen.
  4. Aceves was out of gas.
  5. Victorino is such an excellent outfielder.
  6. Napoli was an attractive option in large part due to his versatility to go behind the plate for 40 or 50 games. As strictly a first baseman, he is a very meh otion.
  7. I gave up the hopes of getting an ace a long time ago. Tht's why I wanted to strengthen the middle and bottom of the rotation in the offseason. No aces were on the market and dreams of Felix were just pipe dreams. Even mid market teams are re-signing their aces. I was pretty consistent about this all offseason.
  8. A mature and broadly dispersed fanbase. It goes far beyond the borders of Boston or New England.
  9. A fast start is such a nice change from the past several years.
  10. The intensity of the market would be one factor that would be reflected in revenue. Certainly, Boston is in with the big boys with revenue.
  11. We just need Buch and Lester to be very good and the bottom 3 to take their regular turns and provide average production. We don't need an ace.
  12. Hank Allen, Tommy Aaron, Mike Maddox
  13. They have gotten much more production from him than I ever expected they would get.
  14. That is a fun fact.
  15. I believe that batters have to do a better job of not getting hit. Too many guys dig in with that body armor and don't even attempt to get out of the way. I'd let the pitchers police the game if their hitters get nailed. I'd keep the current warning and ejection system for pitchers.
  16. They continue to ride their hot start.
  17. I didn't know where to put this, because it involves a rule/penalty and not strategy. There was a lot of talk about the penalty that Carlos Quentin should get for his part in the brawl that injured Greinke. Some people feel that he should be suspended for the duration of Greinke's injury. I agree with that. I hate these stupid bench clearing brawls. The games are long enough. I don't want to sit through that s***. The penalties should be mandatory and severe enough that batters will not think about charging the mound. The penalty structure I would recommend would be as follows: 1. 15 game mandatory suspension for charging the mound. Players will think twice before they will take almost a 10% cut in pay. 2. Any player to leave the bench or dugout should get a mandatory 5 game suspension. 3. If there is an injury in a brawl, the other party(ies) to the brawl get suspended for the greater of the duration of the injury or 15 games. These measures should just about eliminate brawls. If they insist on fighting, let them go at each other in the runway or the parking lot. I don't want to see it.
  18. I was just checking some boxscores, and CBS lists Josh Johnson as the LP tonight. He gave up 2 runs and pitched 7 innings. After 7 the score was tied 2-2. I don't understand how he is listed as the LP.
  19. He is much improved in the OF, but his value is getting on base. Others field, run and throw better than him. Tonight, he is wearing the golden sombrero.
  20. He has to pull him here. The team win is more important than nursing him through 5 innings.
  21. When do they expect Lackey to be back?
  22. Do you want to take the chance messing with mojo?
  23. Do I need to keep saying it? It's your new sig.
