911 was a bit different, Youk. For a couple of days after 911, there were lots of rumors and several evacuations. One or two nights later the Empire State Building was evacuated and the people were told to head toward one of the rivers. That was pretty scary and disconcerting. There was palpable fear of additional attacks. Fighter jets were flying over head night and day. Baseball shutdown across the country out of mourning and respect for the dead who hadn't even begun to be identified. However, the city remained open and mainly operational. NYers went to work the next day, and we volunteered our time after work and on weekends.
