  1. And they bulldozed by the A's one year 3 -0. He's had good teams for most of his 11 years. Before Morneau became on of the walking wounded, he had a lineup eith two of the best hitters in the game in Mauer and Morneau. He also had Cuddyer and the best pitcher in the game for a few years in Santana, and some good bullpens, but he couldn't get it done in the offseason. If I was a Twins fn I'd be screaming for a new manager.
  2. s*** happens. Injuries. That is why you have to reinforce. You improve weaknesses while admittedly creating some redundancy. If Buchholz continues to be nagged by injury, that would create a glaring need. Rosters will not remain static for our competitors. Right now, we are as good as anyone, but you can probably expect Texas to add a significant piece or two. They have been active in past seasons at the deadline. If they get Cliff Lee they will be very very tough to beat unless we counter. I don't think we have a shot at Lee, and I don't like the rest of the crop available as I don't view them as upgrades. I would move for a big bat, preferably to play everyday in LF who could provide more protection for Ortiz than Napoli can provide. I'd like to see a dominating murderer's row of Pedroia, Ortiz and fill in the blank. A middle like that would make the entire lineup better.
  3. I think it is a combination-- half idiots and half sticking it to the Sox.
  4. Saying "wait for it" is just a stupid phrase. Other than that the Red Sox are good at baseball.
  5. Buchholz's health is a major issue, but if he is healthy again and the rest of the starters are healthy, the starters are good enough to get us to the post season. If they miss a turn or two, we have Ace and Webster to take spot starts. In the playoffs, you don't need a #5, maybe not even a #4. Getting an ace for the playoffs wouldn't hurt if Lester continues to be inconsistent, but I don't think we can get Lee, and Garza and others are not upgrades. I think a hitter might be the better move.
  6. I have no problem with Doubront's performance in the 5th hole.
  7. That's why it is called buying and not stealing. You buy to push your team over the top. That's when you do it.
  8. Wait for it? I hate that phrase.
  9. Next up is the west coast and a week of sleep deprivation.
  10. This hits the nail on the head with regard to the pitching need. If we don't need pitching, we should make a move for a big bat. When you have a team that can make a run at the championship, IMO you load for bear and go for it. We haven't been to the playoffs in 3 seasons. You don't have this kind of team every year. When you have a team like this, you need to reinforce it to give it the best shot at winning. If we don't add, our competitors will add to their teams. When you have a team like this, that is when you buy at the trading deadline.
  11. Even if it gives the team what it needs to make a run at a Championship?
  12. Ortiz needs to make this game Bailey-proof
  13. Webster did his job today. He still gives up way too many walks. 4 walks in 6 innings is living dangerously. He kept us in the game and bent but didn't break today, but he's not going to knock anyone out of the rotation yet.
  14. Iggy has proved himself to be a dangerous bunter.
  15. With the middle of the order up, I'd rather run with 2 outs to put him in scoring position with a single. Pedroia and Ells probably have green lights anyway, and Farrell didn't send him and Butterball didn't wave him over, so no, I don't have a big problem with that play. I was just noting that it was another guy thrown out on the bases and a lost run. Base running has not been a bright spot for this team.
  16. Another guy thrown out on the bases costs us a run and maybe more.
  17. Yanks are beating the Twinkies this afternoon as usual 5-0 in the third inning
  18. A Pyrrhic victory or just splitting hairs?
  19. He's seizing his opportunity and trying to make it hard for the Sox to call up Middlebrooks.
  20. And Gardy won nothing with those guys either.
  21. The numbers are overwhelmingly bad. Many many of those games were lost in the late innings when Gardenhire decided time and again to over-manage games. Small market or not. The Twins have seen their share of World Championships, and Gardy has had talented competitive teams throughout his tenure, but he's won only one post season series in 11 years and lost 7 series. In the 7 series that the Twins have lost under his leadership, they have won a total of 3 games. That's horrible. He had a nice long tenure and plenty of chances. It's time for the Twins organization to give someone else a chance.
  22. He's on pace for his lowest HR total (17) since 2007 when he played only 75 games. I have to think that this will turn around.
  23. Nice start to the game. The kid has a couple of runs to work with. He needs to show that he can get through an order 3 times.
  24. His record against the Yankees is a disgrace, especially since he has had competitive teams throughout the period that play consistently above .500.
