  1. PED use creates an uneven playing field, because not everyone does it. Believe it or not, even in the heyday of PEDs before the drug testing, a lot of players were clean. Canseco, who is trying to make money and sell books claims that two-thirds were doing it. That is probably an overstatement, but even if accepted on it's face, there were at least 250 MLB players who were clean at the height of the usage. They had an unlevel playing field and they were cheated. The fans were cheated, because we thought that we were witnesses to something special watching Bonds and the MGWire Sosa HR chase and Clemens and so on. Now, we realize that they just gave themselves an unfair edge. I used to watch the Giants a lot and marvel at Bonds. His plate discipline was unbelievable and when the pitcher threw him a strike, he crushed the ball at a phenomenal rate. He almost never missed his pitch or failed to crush it. He was always great, but earlier in his career, you could get him out with pitches out of the zone. He was playing in an otherworldly manner in his Giant days. It was special to watch. Now, it just seems fake and not special. It's like finding out that Miss America had a boob job before the pageant. Yes, she is a beautiful girl, but she shouldn't have won because she was artificially enhanced, fake.
  2. If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying.
  3. He's a victim with a $142 million contract. Please spare me.
  4. Screw him. What a jackass.
  5. I am glad that Ortiz was publicly critical of Dempster's idiotic selfish move.
  6. Some people in the Mets organization rate Wheeler's stuff as superior to Harvey.
  7. Jays are freaking useless. No help from them.
  8. This situation meets the minimum requirement for a racially motivated crime-- there was an African American and a Caucasian involved. In the Martin case, there was no Caucasian involved in the incident, but it was portrayed as a black-white racial incident.
  9. He started the season in the minors. He has a elite arm and he has done well since his call up. I wish we had him.
  10. Wheeler is pretty good.
  11. Another chance for Dice K
  12. The Nats acquired him and put him on waivers immediately.
  13. The Rays have added Delmon Young
  14. At first glance, I said: who is that on Nava's back?
  15. LOL! So you are all in on the Sox.
  16. I agree with everything you say above with regard to PEDs. I'm not so sure if I like your restructuring of the HOF, but it doesn't seem like a fully formed idea on your part. As for the PEDs, because of the big money in the game there will always be high tech drug cheating on a massive scale. The temptation is too great and the players and the agents etc. have the money to get the stuff. Legalizing it would level the playing field, but as you noted there would be a trickle down effect to college and high school athletes and maybe even overzealous parents of little leaguers looking for an edge. The trickle down effect is the sole reason why I think the pros need to keep the PEDs illegal. But for that, I wouldn't care if they ingested uranium.
  17. What are the odds?
  18. LOL! For perspective, did you look in your wallet before you typed this and what percentage of your wallet money is the $8?
  19. I got the fun theme of your post, but the line above was the best in the post. The next funniest was Nava and the relentless turtle. He does run like a turtle.
  20. The k's also reduce the number of DPs.
  21. If there is a man on first with less than 2 outs, he is no my choice. Too many k's and a groundball is surely a DP. The relay can be walked over to first base.
  22. Happy Birthday, Yaz! No one will ever play more games in a Red Sox uniform than you did. If Ernie Banks is known as Mr. Cub, you certainly deserve to be known as Mr. Red Sox. My apologies to Johnny Pesky, but that title should be yours-- over 3,300 games and almost 12,000 ABs over 23 years as a player.
  23. I really will be disappointed if we don't win the division. It is there for the taking. The Sox have had a great season, but the importance of each game will continue to ratchet up until the end of the season. Wins will be very hard fought and there is no leeway for stupid play or managing. They can't afford to give away any games.
  24. As long as they come back from the coast with a 3-3 record, they should be in good shape. The best we can hope for this weekend is for the standings to look the same on Monday as they do today. I don't want the Rays or the Skanks to gain any ground this weekend. I fear the Rays most of all, but it is too soon to stick a fork in the MFY's.
  25. He has missed a lot of time with knee problems in the last couple of years. I don't know if he can hold up for an entire season.
