  1. Merry Christmas, Fred!
  2. I have the same concern. High pitch counts in Japan also scare me. When Dice k came to the Sox, his high pitch counts were legendary. That should have been cause for caution. Why would high pitch counts be needed for lower level competition? That will be a huge issue in transitioning to MLB.
  3. Bill Lajoie was the Assistant GM that made the trade for Beckett and Lowell.
  4. If he keeps finishing last, he will not be in Chicago in 2017.
  5. He's Australian.
  6. Even if he is the next Sandy Koufax, he's not worth it. Remember, that Koufax lasted only until age 31.
  7. I agreee with you on that. Actually, I think the scale has been gradually tilting away from them for decades. I would mark the beginning of that at about the time that Joe Cronin became league president. I think that was in the 60's. The scale tilted back in the 70's with free agency. That was due to economics and market size as opposed to any rigging of the system. I don't think that there has been any systemic unfairness favoring the Yankees in a long time. However, I firmly belilieve think that there was something shady with the series of deals that Gabe Paul pulled off with his former Indian team.
  8. I just don't want to leave any doubt about my intentions to engage you on any topic. Your constant snarky broad based mean-spirited attacks aimed at TalkSox members has made you toxic as far as I am concerned. I'll not validate any of your opinions or discussions by engaging with you. Merry Christmas.
  9. What I stated was an opinion. If you want to debunk an opinion, do a better job than some cherry picked stats. How about a three year analysis of attendance at visiting ballparks for the dates when the Yankees were in town-- or something with some statistical validity. Better yet, put me back on ignore. Things worked better that way
  10. Like I said, the thought that baseball wants the Yankees to be good sickens me, but IMO that is true. When the Red Sox or Cubs are good their fans travel around to see them and they have fans in every part of the country. When the Yankees are good, especialy when they have some top controversial stars, people who hate them in these other cities come out to watch them. Again, this is just my opinion, but I have read similar opinions from writers throughout the years. Throughout the years, the Yankees have gotten away with a lot of shenanigans where baseball looked the other way to keep the competitve scales tilted in favor of the Yankees. Prior to the days of free agency, the Yankees used teams like the Phillies and the KC A's as farm systems. They were constantly poaching their players for a few bucks under the table.
  11. I wasn't talking about TV ratings in the post season. Baseball as a whole prefers the Yankees to be competitive with big stars, because they put fannies in the seats in small market parks like Tampa, KC, Baltimore etc. When the Yankees come to town, those owners fill their pockets. If they Yankees suck and have no stars (like 2013), it hurts the other teams' attendance.
  12. While I don't believe that there has been any conspiracy, the rest of baseball wants the Yankees to be competitive, because they bring profits to the whole league when they have good teams. It makes me sick, but I believe that to be true.
  13. Bradley's plate discipline is impressive, but the option of Nava as our full time RFer if Bradley flops is not a good option.
  14. Are Welker and Petersen going to be activated this weekend?
  15. I don't have you on ignore. We have been coexisting, because I thought you had me on ignore, so I almost never reply to your posts. Let's continue with that, since it has been working so well.
  16. They can have him, and yes, I agree that they have over-paid for him.
  17. His schtick is criticizing other posters, not their opinions. Ignore is a great feature.
  18. Our medical staff has always been an operation of quacks. The worst example that I can remember was many years ago with Tim Naehring. I believe that he had hyperextended his elbow so they needed to tighten up a ligament and re-route a nerve. It was viewed as routine and he was supposed to be as good as new for Spring Training. He showed up for Spring Training and he could not straighten his arm. He couldn't throw or hit with his crooked arm. He could never regain enough flexsibility to straighten his arm. His promising career was over.
  19. Roberts makes J.D. Drew look like Cal Ripken.
  20. It was a complete and total collapse in September 2011. It was record-setting and demoralizing. Tito had to go.
  21. lol!!
  22. None is the type of weapon that Ellsbury is. They are situational base stealers for the most part-- they take advantages of lapses by the pitchers. Ellsbury was a guy that the pitchers knew would be stealing and they still could not stop him -- not even with a pitchout. Yes, Victorino and Pedroia can steal bases, but they can't win showdowns with the oppositions pitchers and catchers like Ells could. As for JBJ, I don't know if he can steal bases effectively.
  23. The guy has looked like a train wreck at the plate. He is strong as hell, but completely he is over matched by major league pitching.
  24. You have a good birthday. My son has a good birthday too. On his 19th birthday, we attended the parade for the 2004 Champions and on his 28th birthday the Red Sox beat the Cards at Fenway for the Championship. My birthday is in January and the last memorable thing to happen on my birthday was the Colts winning Super Bowl V against the Cowboys on Jim O'Brien's last second field goal. That was pretty cool since Johnny Unitas was an idol of mine as a kid. He was tough as nails.
