Same for me Hammer. I am very proud of my Italian heritage. Remember, we never asked or demanded anything from the government, we were a hated ethnic group, has immigration laws passed to keep our kind out, had more deragatory nicknames than even African-Americans, had to overcome the stigma of a small percentage of our group who were gangsters, and had to watch every crime show with a hood with a vowel for a last name. And you know what???? WE MADE IT BIG IN AMERICA; we overcame, and now we are a very respected group that looked up to----great cars, great clothes, and the best food in the world. Maybe in 2008 we get Rudy Giuliani as the first Dago US President.

I plead guilty to my negative opinion of J Lo. I just don't like her. She appears to me to be a female replica of A-Rod himself; in fact she reminds me of her. And you know what I think of A-Fraud.

Krien, there is this short DVD out about Red Sox fans promising to give away their kids, cut their peckers off, give their house away, lose an arm----all if only the Red Sox could win a World Series. Fast track six months and the deed done. We see kids being taken away from their crying mothers, people being evicted from their homes, but the best one is Denis Leary who has to pay with his johnson. The guy comes with a big pair of shears and the last you see is Leary having to pull down his pants. I tell you I nearly laughed myself off the planet when I saw it. My friend is supposed to make a copy and send it to me.

Hey Hammer, I'm a Dago, too, but I'll tell you a quick story. When I was a kid in New York I was a big Dodger fan and hated the Yankees as I do today. It was the Italians on that team that I despised most. My grandpa was completely nonplused when I shouted a curse word at Joe D. at the TV. He, horse face Berra, that little squirt Rizzuto, the punk Martin (Paesano), and Ratface Rashi were players I despised. So it is possible to be a proud Dago and despise some of them, especially if they play for the Yankees.

Well J, if he is as valued as the Red Sox claim him to be they will give him a few years to show his stuff. If Lowell turns out to be a little advanced for him they could always send him down to a lower classification to give him some confidence. Hopefully, he will show some real grit this year and be on this wayh.

Man oh man 26, you have some real anger issues to deal with. Wow!!!! Remember, though, J Lo is pretty good at shacking up and has been passed around more times than the hat at a softball game. You know those Bronx girls. I think J Lo has been married three times and she is so phony that her Red Sox hat means nothing to me, and I'm sure many others on this site. As far as Denia Leary is concerned, he loves the Red Sox and he is very sincere about it. He is a real Red Sox fan. But, hey, that's what the Red Sox-Yankee feud is all about. As far as J Lo is concerned you can have her.

Schill, Ellsbury is one outstanding young player. He can hit, field, run, throw, has a terrific attitude and has a work ethic that is beyond question. I saw this guy during his college career and he is the real deal. No way the Red Sox can afford to lose this guy; he is that good. I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps two classifications and winds up with the Red Sox late in '07 or 2008 at the latest.

Tell you what Yankee man. You guys take Soriano back. We'll pass. The guy stinks at second base, and we have young players ready to step in there.

Capeman, I don't know how you feel because it hasn't happened to me that way, though I did waste an hour on the phone being told a rep would be with me right away. That was when Spring Training tickets went on sale and I got on the phone as soon as the ticket office opened. No luck. When I called three hours later, though, I got right through. Of course, I could only get tickets for the last three games of Spring Training. Those who got through first got the tickets for the earlier games. At least I got the tickets before I made travel plans. Someone in the Red Sox customer department should be taken out to the woodshed for this crap. It is a great way to turn fans off to a team that is beloved by them.

Riverside, if you, Schill and I all see that this guy is a lemon on the screen how come the moguls of Hollywood can't? Oh sure, he is a good looking young man but the cat just can't act. I don't think it is because we dislike him personally that all of us say this; after all he is a rabid Red Sox rooter and I can appreciate that, but he is a bomb, bagel and bust on he silver screen. Can't remember one movie he was in where I had a different opinion. He ought to confine his time to the golf course and Fenway Park.

Jsing, I have gotten the same info on another Red Sox website but when I downloaded Egan's stats last year they looked pretty bad. I just hope he was having first year jitters, though. The book on him is that he is a good reciever with a strong arm and power at the plate. I hope he shows it at Lowell this summer. I have been looking at our prospects in the minors and catcher and possibly first base are the areas where we might need help.

Hey Schill, we seem to agree on most things. I like that. I did see the movie Armageddon last night on TV and if I had any doubts about Affleck's ability on the screen they were dispelled. How he even made it to Hollywood befuddles me. The guy just cannot act. Even in Pearl Harbor, supposedly his best, he was overshadowed even by superliberal Alec Baldwin, who had only a small role. Baldwin is a helluva actor, though. Anyway, to be honest if I ran into Ben anywhere I would extend my hand in friendship. He is a Red Sox fan and I just cannot turn on someone who follows our team. It is like we're a club or extended family. Do you feel that way?

Cape, I live in California and it would be useless for me to even try to send away for Red Sox tickets. What I've done instead is buy one of the Red Sox travel packages, and I will be flying in April 10th for a tour of Fenway Park, meeting a few of the players, and tickets for the first two games. The Red Sox offer numerous packages during the year and you may want to purchase one. Since you live so close the expense would a lot less than it is f or me and you would be guaranteed of seeing our beloved team a few time this year.

Let me remind you that I am going to watch that home run in a little while when I put that DVD into the TV and enjoy myself. I'll be thinking of you.

Schill, you've given me an inspiration. I'm heading in my bedroom in short order and put those ALCS and World Series DVD's into the TV and relive those great days. I do that quite often, but just between you, me and the rest of the crowd, what I wouldn't give to have that happen again this year. Man, every Red Sox board would light up in delight. We'd own the world.

I just came upon this old post and I have a quick story to add to that magical time. I was in New York the day the Red Sox won it all; it happened to be my 64th birthday. My room mate Bob is a big Yankee fan and is in misery over what happened to his team the previous week. I got up early the next morning and told him you don't want to be where I am going today. He came along. I walked along 5th Avenue and along Broadway wearing my Red Sox shirt and cap and waving to everyone to passed me by. It was a hell of a day and we even went into the Yankee store on fifth avenue. I don't think they appreciated seeing me but it was a hoot and I wanted them and everyone to know that there was a Red Sox fan celebrating in their midst and was having a blast paying them back for 2003.

Ray, I'd like to agree with you on the Red Sox, but when you say the Red Sox could win with NO PROBLEM if the things you mentioned turn out ok, well, I then have to take a hike. I think the Red Sox can win the AL East as you do, but with problems, lots of them. The Red Sox never win anything easy; it is always an effort. Suffice to say the team does look improved over last year, but I notice on another thread Red Sox God is hitting this chemistry thing pretty hard. He has a point; if we are a team of strangers it doesn't do us all that much good. It is important for the new guys to mesh with the returnees to give us another dimension. It would also shut up Johnny Judas who get more ridiculous with his muttering each passing day.

If Bard is the successor to Tek then the Red Sox are in big trouble indeed. The guy has developed a rag arm, cannot hit a lick, has little if any power, and ought to be arrrested for loitering every time he steps up to home plate. I'd go with Flaherty. At least he's a good club house guy, and has had experience catching a star pitcher. Randy Johnson loved pitching to him; Wake might. My question is, do we have a young catcher down on the farm who can throw and hit with some regularity?

Schill, Affleck will be around from time to time at Fenway. The guy is a diehard Red Sox fan and for that I appreciate him, but in all honesty, he is one crappy actor and most of his films have really flopped on the cutting room floor. Maybe he should buy a season ticket and let Jennifer Garner do the work in the movies. Affleck could afford to retire, enjoy watching his favorite team and not have to embarrass himself by watching those movies he makes.

Jay, remember that June series with the Yankees in 2004 when the players were on the steps of the dugout egging their teammates on while Nomar was sitting in the dugout with his hangdog face? The team was in the toilet then and nothing improved until that July brawl with the Yankees when Bill Mueller won it in the 9th with a homer. A week or so later the trade for Cabby and Menky was made and suddenly the chemistry was there. It was not there earlier in the season. -
I just have to believe this rumor has no substance and that Theo is just not that dumb to try and trade for a guy like Soriano. He is a lousy second baseman, cannot show any plate discipline, has a lousy attitude, is a mee meee meeee guy all the way, has a pathetic on base average and would block Pedroia's rise to the Red Sox and put a class act and clutch player like Loretta on the bench. I hope the guys on WEEI just were having a hangover when they put out that rumor. Soriano would be a disaster in the clubhouse, on the field, and with the fans.

Hey "E", Pedroia and Ellsbury are two players the Red Sox had better never never never trade away for any one. These two players are going to make millions of Red Sox fans grin from ear to ear. They both can hit, run, field, and have the strong work ethic t hat makes for an outstanding player. If we don 't blow it we have these guys for a long time.

Hammer, you came through again. I will remember that next time I make one of my usual spelling screwups because I don't proofread by posts. Just the same, though, I want this Ortiz deal closed as soon as possible. I'll tell you this, if he is unsigned after this season he will NOT give us a team discount and we could lose him to the Yankees. I don't want a replay of the Johnny Damon fiasco.
