    MTB, you don't ever have to sell Bronson's team attitude to me; that has never been in doubt. You have to love the guy for his loyalty and willingness to do anything to help his team. And I think he can be a real help to us in the bullpen. As I just suggested on the Dirt Dogs website, pitching relief for between 1-4 innings as long or middle man will allow him to hurl his full array of pitches at top speed and not have to pace himself, nibbling and noodling around and getting himself into jams. He can be a big help to us if he accepts that role. As for Foulke, you are right on with your assessment of him, but for me anything resembling good news on the Keith front is music to my ears. It means at least the guy has a real positive attitude going into the middle part of Spring Training. BTW, great chat with you. You seem to really know what's what.

    Riverside, I'll say it again. A healthy and effective Foulke is the real key to our having a great season.

    Monsterman, I think you are right on with that. Arroyo would also be better in the bullpen, I have said that repeatedly. I don't think either Wells or Clement will be traded and here's why. Wells is a money pitcher, good when the chips are down. The guy knows how to rise to the occasion. Clement has hellacious ability and stuff, but his problem is that he seems to have bad second halfs, and there is no excuse for that. If he puts together a good season he could win between 18-20 games. But like ksushi, I would like to see Papelbon in the rotation this year, but will have to settle for him starting first in the pen.

    I'm beginning to believe that the Red Sox are really going to put Bronson in the pen this year---that is, unless, they trade one of their starters. I just think he would do better out of the bullpen. The guy, as you said HOSN can pitch middle or long relief and that's a plus for us.

    Did this guy Monty really say such a stupid thing as that in all seriousness? He needs to me taken to the woodshed post haste. Well, Yankee fans are a wierd breed, aren't they? I'm not as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I ever was.

    Champ, I hate to step on your parade but Selig is not going to get his s#$t together any time soon, and the Lords of Baseball have no intention of firing him because he mouths their words almost verbatum. No, all we can hope for is that he finally gets some balls and comes down hard on Bonds and those other juicers and institutes a strict drug testing policy this year. Just don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen.

    Krien, we are all a little biased towards our favorites; nature of the beast. Still I think that Bronson would be much more effective coming out of the bullpen this season. I do admire the fact that he took a home town discount to stay with the Red Sox. As an old war horse, I still admire loyalty. I think it is a very honorable trait. Anyway, keep pitching in there for Bronson. I think when all is said and done he will again make a good contribution to our team's success.

    Red Seat, off of what he has done in his two starts in Spring Training you get a free ride from me on the Arroyo thing. He looks real hittable so far. Glad, though, we agree that he is better suited for the bullpen. At least we can spot him down there and use him where he is most effective.

    And Ksushi, we all know that Arroyo gets himself into deep s*** when he starts his nibbling around the plate. His strength is giving us two or three good innings with his best stuff and that is why he is best suited to the bullpen. In a pinch he could close; I really believe he could.

    Red, that is a good point you made, but if Arroyo was sent to the bullpen and had to close in a pinch he would not have to beat around the bush. He could just let loose with all he has, cracking curves and pitching high and tight. His problem is that he tries to pace himself and he hasn't the great stuff for that. For an inning or two he could be very effective. I remember two or three times last season how he would blow through the lineup for two or three innings and then get bombed. Relief pitching is where I think he belongs.

    Monster Man, as stupid as your suggestion sounds today in lieu of another one of Arroyo's crappy performances in a starting role, I think you may have something there. Take out our anger at Bronson pitching lousy this afternoon and we have a guy with knockout stuff who for one or two innings could do the job. A lot of our friends on board may be laughing at us now, but while I have always believed that Arroyo was best suited for the bullpen, CLOSER never entered my mind. Fact is, your idea is not stupid at all; it might be something that was way ahead of the curve if it comes down to that.

    Cape Man, that is why I say Foulke is the key to the whole season. I don't want to put undue pressure on the guy but, face it, if he can't do it who can? You said yourself that Timlin isn't suited for the job, Hansen is too young and inexperienced, and Seanez has never had that job. It could fall on Taverez. I like that guy; he is a real competitor. My take? A healthy and effective Foulke, a rejuvinated Schilling, and a horse in Beckett? Keep them all healthy and we make it to the World Series.

    Monster Man, the one thing we must never do again, though, is this closer by committee crap. It cost us dearly in the early part of the 2003 season when he kept blowing lead after lead. If not Foulke, someone has to step up big time. Foulke is the best choice for me because of his past record. I just hope he is ready when the bell sounds.

    mtb, it is a brand new day and yet I'm still spinning around trying to make heads or tails about that young buck's saying A-Rod is his second favorite player. Wow!!!! I don't know whether to laugh out loud or scream. And A-Rod of all people! Well, all I can say is that the rest of us at least know what's going on. Someone has to counsel that youngster before it's too late. I suggest you. Have a great day my friend.

    Ray 10 and the rest of you, I made a bold statement not so long ago that to me Foulke was the key to the season. Some of you fell in line and supported by assertion; others thought that there were more important things to worry about. Sorry guys, I still feel that way. We need a healthy Keith Foulke to close out games and get that victory into the clubhouse. With the best pitching staff we've had in a long long time (at least on paper), a great closer for us gives us the edge in the American League. You may not agree with that and some of you may snicker, but think about it. What would a great and consistent closer mean to our team? I await your answers.

    Hey Keep the Faith, if you really believed that young ******* was really a Red Sox fan, please make an appointment with your doctor because you need help. I know in my gut that you think that kid had to be an ******* from the word go. How in hell can anyone be a Red Sox fan and say A-Fraud is their second favorite player. Look, I may be old fashioned in a lot of ways but I think I have enough of a brain to understand this: If you are a diehard Red Sox fan, you despise the Yankees and can never place one of them in your pantheon of heroes. Hammer said it best. Read his post; it says it all.

    Surprised a Yankee fan would even mumble a luke warm criticism of Selig; after all he has just about kissed Steinbrenner's ass since he has been in command. Of course, you Yankee fans should get on his case, too, because, face it, he cannot hold David Stern or Paul Tagliabue's jock as a commissioner. He hasn't marketed baseball worth a damn, and all he does is look out for Bud Selig. He has been totally AWOL on the steroids issue and even now he is mumbling platitudes about the problem with the juicers while doing nothing about it.

    Hey guys, it's a little premature to talk about cutting someone. It is only the first week of Grapefruit League games and the pitchers are still rounding into shape. I think we need to stand back and see what transpires the next two weeks before we jump to any conclusions about Seanez or any other pitcher. As for Graff, I think we are making a mistake in getting rid of him. He seems to fit in well with the Fenway crowd, and that my friends is not easy to do. Witness how Renteria couldn't adjust last year. Graff his over 300 for us and those kinds of middle infielders who hit that well and in the clutch as he did do not grow on trees.

    Schill and MTB, glad to know I'm not along in all this. Didn't know Damjudas was playing around while his then wife was expecting---another reason to despise that dirty bum. Thirty-five years+ with my Linda and such a thought never even entered my sometimes alleged mind. Anyway, I think things will be looking up for us this season with a better defense, deeper and better pitching, and still a pretty solid attack. What's your take guys?

    I believe it was the Yankees who were bluffing. They were desperate for a CF because they knew that Bernie Williams was deteriorating by the day and Crosby was a journeyman at best and a flop at worst. No, no one is going to convince me that Damon didn't really want to leave. His wife is a social climber and a real bitch from everything I've heard from people who know something about her, and they have repeatedly said she wanted to be in New York where she could mix with the big mucky mucks. I would love to see that marriage hit the rocks just like Damon's career will in one or two years.

    MTB, I have no beef with any of my Red Sox colleagues here who want to still like Johnny Damon; it is their right to do so if they wish. I also don't want to hear any s*** from those who like him directed at me who thinks of him as a lowdown scurrilous lieing bastard. He did say he would never play for the Yankees, loved the Boston fans, loved the town. He could have given us a home town discount and if he would have been patient for a few more days it could have gotten done. I will attend games at Angels Stadium this year and boo the living hell out of him and wish him a rotten four years with the Yankees. I guess I'm one of the old fashioned fools who still thinks a man's word ought to count for something. Over and out.

    Mt, I think you are right on that. I would hope you were wrong, though, and we could see this team mesh a lot sooner than that, but as be both know the Red Sox never do anything the easy way, do they?

    Hey Two-Six, if the Mets trade for Graff and play Matsui over him Randolph and Minaya have to be the biggest loons in baseball. They both want that guy out of there but there going to keep him and play him over Tony? No wonder the Mets haven't done jack s*** the past five years; I just cannot believe they would be so stupid as to do something like that.

    Tony going to the Mets would be a personal boost for me because the Mets were once my No. 1 team. I even named my Stan Musial Team the Mets when I was coaching in in the 80's and 90's. Since I went to Fenway that fateful afternoon in August 2000 the Mets have slowly shrunk into pigmies in my pantheon of teams to root for. I hardly even get on their board. The Red Sox have just consumed me totally. Nominally, I still consider myself a Mets supporter in the NL but barely. Tony G. over there would help me reignite my affection for that team. Then again, who the hell knows?
