MTB, well it sure worked last night, didn't it? Sometimes we all can be a little too smart for our own good. Frankly, I would have wanted to go with my two aces back to back and go for the series win right off the bat, but what's done is done and we can't get that game last night back. Better to wish Josh well today and hopes that he pitches to his ability and we take a win into the clubhouse. For whatever reason, Tim has never fared too well down in the heart of Texas. -

Time to get back down to reality guys. Yesterday's win was a gem for all of us but we need to keep the momentum going and come home with at least a winning record for our Home Opener. We need Wakefield to go out there and give us seven solid innings and have the bullpen ready to close it out. Seven more runs today would do a lot to make us winners two days in a row and that is what we need to make certain we get off to the good start all of us were wishing for. -

Why act like a dork Rivernator? It seems you are just out to pull our chains. Yes, the Yankees looked awesome last night but the fact is none of us are a damn bit interested in anything the Yankees do except when we mash them in head to head combat. It is one thing to praise your team; another to try and get Red Sox fans mad by dissing us. You Yankee fans just can't seem to understand that there is a world of difference between your fans and ours. Ours don't disappear when when we have a bad season or two. I can remember when Red Barber lost his job in 1966 when he had the cameraman take a series of views of the stands the year you guys finished in 10th place. There were less than 1500 people there and the trend continued until the Yankees revived in 1976. It also happened again in the Eighties and into the Nineties when it seemed every fan in New York was suddenly for the Mets. So don't give us any of your nonsense. -

Riverside, I was sky high after yesterday's game because it all came out well except for Foulke's sad performance, but I am back down to reality today. We need a good outing from Wakefield and by that I mean we cannot afford to see him give up as assortment of home runs as sometimes is the case. If he does his job tonight and we give him decent support we ought to win our second game. A lot of ifs? Maybe, but the bullpen is rested and Texas pitching is hitable from where I sit. You know it was the first opening day victory for us since I started following the Red Sox in 2001. Perhaps a good omen? -
Lowrie and Pedroia ought to be our future DP combo and hopefully not too far down the road. Pedroia has been injured all spring and I am hoping he is ready to start playing and producing. I would like to see Dustin put as shortstop and be ready to take over at that position when Gonzales stinks up the joint enough that we have to get rid of him. Lowrie and Pedroia can play either position and what the Red Sox have to do is decide who plays which position. Both players are outstanding prospects and I would be very chapped to see either or both of them traded. Those two must play for our team.

You know guys, one thing I should not forget to mention. Unlike other websites this one tells you what the message sent to you says. You then have the option of answering or ignoring it. Plus I like at the end when each message from the board says "all the best". Nice to know you are thought of so highly by the board.

mtb, I really don't know too many Red Sox fans who had anything but praise for Bill Mueller. The guy always gave 1000% and put his body on the line every play and every day. Plus the guy was a clutch hitter and a go to guy. Remember, he even won the AL Batting title in 2003. He gave us three good years and only wish he could have given us more. I will be at Dodger Stadium a number of times this year rooting Bill, Nomar and Derek on. BTW, I leave for Fort Myers tomorrow morning. I will let you guys know what I see that impresses me when I get back. Take care.

HOSN, a Red Sox-Yankees Series at Fenway would be worth its weight in gold but unless I hit the lottery or some lucky break that seems out for me, and like others, I will have to catch them at Yankee Stadium. I've seen two games there, July 4, 2003, and September 10, 2005, and both times our guys really walloped the Evil Empire. On that July 4th three years ago, the Red Sox hit seven homers, most of them off of David Wells, in a 10-3 romp. My friend who got me the tickets couldn't stand to see anymore and left in the 7th inning. Last year Schilling pitched his best game of the year, a three hit, eight inning gem in which we won 9-2 on homers by Manny and Olerud. We got 14 hits in that game if I remember correctly. But, oh boy, how I would love to see some of that rivalry in our home park.
-
Capeman, if you know of any way to get tickets for the games other than the way I went about it, please let me know. I don't know of any other packages the team is going to offer fans who have travel long distances, and if someone is selling tickets to, say, Yankee games, well, I am all ears. Of course, two or three times max is the most I could come to Boston from Los Angeles, but I am planning on taking a trip to Oakland to catch the Red Sox there, and I have tickets for all three Red Sox games at Angel Stadium on Aug. 22-24.
-
Buddy, you seemed to have your ticket problem solved but I do wonder what so many other rabid Red Sox fans can do to get tickets to see our guys in action. To me it seems every option costs plenty of money. Maybe it is because I'm a senior citizen but $100.00 doesn't seem like chump change to me. That's a good price. My question is, does that include BOTH airfare and tickets, or just good seats and for how many people?
-
Bill, I miss your namesake already. Fortunately I am following the Dodgers in the NL for the first time in 49 years, and will be there to root Bill Mueller on. He is my type of player and when I coached baseball all those years it was players like him that I always looked for to play on my teams. Those kinds are champions. BTW, just to keep the record straight the RED SOX are my No. 1 team, no question about it. The Dodgers are a very very very very distant second, but there is no ballplayer I like anymore than Bill Mueller.
-
Could be you're right Crespo. It just rubbed me the wrong way. I keep hearing this word disrespect. Petey sung the same tune last off season. Are these guys only interested in the big payday? When you're multi-millionaire does an extra couple of million actually make it worth deserting a team and town that made you into a rock star? Maybe I'm just too old fashioned for my own good and ought to get with the real program as it exists today. Everything for the money; the money is everything.
-
Bill Mueller was my favorite Red Sox as well. Since I now follow the Dodgers in the NL I look forward to cheering Bill on this season in the games I attend at Dodger Stadium. He was a real gamer for us and he played his heart out every time he stepped on the field.
-
Twisted the words? Maybe in your opinion I did. The fact is, whether I did or not I still believe Damon betrayed the fans by his callous move to our enemy. He lied to the fans and he fooled a lot of people and I look forward to giving him a very hot reception when he comes out to California and plays the Angels. I have my tickets and he will know that I am out there in the centerfield stands.
-
Right Ghost, and he was a better man than any of us could be. He was perfect; I am not and neither is anyone other mortal that I know of. We have our likes and dislikes, but I'm going to tell you something that I have always felt. The Lord loves winners and he doesn't like losers or liars or cheaters. Damon is the second and as a work-in-progress in the eyes of the Lord I have the right to dislike liars. If you are more forgiving on this score than I am, I salute and take my hat off to you.

`We have to give Lowell a good look when the season begins. I think Francona learned his lesson last year with Bellhorn; then again, it was the front office that finally took the matter out of Tito's hands by sending him down when he got off the DL, and when he did poorly at Pawtucket sent him on his way. Lowell deserves the same chance because he is a better player than K-Horn and I think that once the season gets underway he will be ok.
-
Why so many of us despise Damon is because he looked us all in the eye and lied through his teeth. HE SAID HE WOULD NEVER PLAY FOR THE YANKEES. He said he loved the Red Sox fans and would never abandon them. He said he loved Boston and wanted to finish his career here. So what did he do? He lied, took the money and ran. That is why so many of us have turned on him. I can only hope that Coco Crisp does so well that within two years he will be nothing but an unpleasant memory to us.
-
Lowell does his job and we're ok. Youk will do a good job and Crisp and Loretta will be a terrific one-two punch at the top of the order. Again, let me give my opinion that Schilling and Foulke are the keys. They come through and we win. Simple as that.

HeadMan, I don't want to sound like I'm some millionaire because I most certianly am not, but I have a little money saved for a few trips and I am going to Spring Training this Sunday and will see three Grapefruit League games next week---the Rays, Reds and Pirates. Then on April 10 I am flying to Boston for the first two games, and a tour of the park and meeting with a few players. Remember when a few of my friends here got all over me about being a card carrying member of Red Sox Nation? Well because of that membership I get E-Mails from the Red Sox about travel packages during the season. I have to go that route since I live in California, but you could go that route, stay at a Boston hotel, and catch a couple of games. You wouldn't have to travel far so you'd save money that way. And if you live near Boston you don't even have to stay at a hotel, just pay for the games That might be worth your consideration.
-
K, easy my friend. One Red Seat is one of us, don't forget that. I know what he's tyring to say, but that seems to be what the front office seems to believe, too. Me? I'm with you on Papelbon. He was 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA last season when brought up. That is good enough for me. Yes, I want him in the rotation, and you know what? He will be in there for sure in 2007, and I think he will get in there this season as well. Sorry to sound like a pessimist, but I think one of our starters will be going on the DL sometime this season. When that happens Jon will be in there. You also have to take into consideration that Paps might have to close if our friend Foulke is not fully recovered. To me, that means we have to cover all our bases and Pap is the closer if that scenario comes to pass.
-
Crespo, I don't know if you were venting for the hell of it, were panning what Riverside said or were ready sincere in your hatred of Damon. Anyway, I will keep an eye on you and see how you react when Damon does make his disgusting re-entry into Fenway Park. Some are taking his departure with a grain of salt, the rest of us are taking it hard. If our team does well this season and wins the AL East and go on to higher acclaim Damon will be forgotten like a fart in the wind.
-
Go get 'em Riverside. Many of us want to hand the guy his head for his treachery. But we do have to move on. Coco Crisp will make us forget Johnny Damon within two seasons, and when Jacoby Ellsbury gets here and CC moves to left, Damon will be nothing more than a sad footnote in our history. We all have to vent once in awhile and it was your turn. I am due for one myself.
-
MTB, we all know talk is cheap, but he does sound like he has the confidence in himself to get back in form and help the Red Sox cause. Certainly, as I have mentioned before, a healthy and effective Foulke means a dozen more wins for us this season. I have said he is the key to the season and I have had no reason to change my mind. Great news if what he said turns out to be true, wouldn't you agree?
-
Teddy Ballgame, Lowell is starting to hit now and I hope that leads to something good. It would be a great shot in the arm for us if he makes a big comeback this year. He could actually turn out to be an improvement over Bill Mueller, though I say that with a lump in my throat since Bill was my favorite Red Sox player who I will cheer for this year out here as a member of the Dodgers.
