  1. Well I'm afraid some of you are looking at this with rose colored glasses. If DiNardo's sorry ass performance so far tonight doesn't sicken you I don't know what could. If he makes even one more start for us the season is as good as ruined because this guy simply cannot pitch in the Big Leagues. He throws puss and everytime you look at him on the mound he's pitching from a stretch or watching a ball go through the infield for another hit. Is the guy sleeping with the owner's daughter. Please, for the good of the team and the good of DiNardo send the guy down to Pawtucket. Sorry Lenny, you suck.
  2. You guys know what? I hate to say it but when the Red Sox had that three month funk from May through July I said, oopps that 2003 loss to the Yankees really has taken something out of them. Thank goodness they came back and I was mistaken. Now? I hope this is a mirage, but does anybody at all agree with me that this team looks a little lost right now? They seem to be lacking some spark from where I sit. Of course a win tonight would cure many of the ills but I hark back again to the fact that our bench leaves much to be desired and Pena is still a big project. Notice how the Reds are doing so well without that strikeout machine? Then again, we could be talking about Passball Bard, or Snowed Under Snow, or Gagging Gonzales, or Creepy Cora. Again, wake me when this nightmare is over and we can all smile again. Sorry guys, but I'm a little down now.
  3. Manny, Clemens has said he will not sign until sometime in June----unless, I guess, some team really throws a lot of money at him. He is a good capitalist, you know. If and when he decides the Red Sox had better be in there with all fours trying to lure him in. Face it, our starting pitching is starting to look a lot like our hitting----pretty sad right now. Of course, we can all say it is early but this team seems to lack a real spark thus far. I hate to say it but they even seem a little boring to watch. I hope this is all a bad dream and when I wake up our real Red Sox will be there waiting to clobber their enemies.
  4. Weaver had two good years with Detroit and was tabbed to become one of the league's best pitchers when traded to New York; he then collapsed and eventually was traded to the Dodgers. He ate up innings but always pitched well enough to lose or have no decision. True, the Dodger attack sucked to high heaven but even when they got him runs he gave them back. I firmly believe some players can step into a pressure situation and thrive while others wilt and fade away. I saw in on the amateur level for years managing teams ranging from ages 15-35 over a 30 year period. Some players are just games and some are not. Fact of life.
  5. Well you've got me there Riverman. OK, long relief it is. I can tell you this: If lefthand hitters are hitting over 300 against DiNardo he is even more useless to us than I first surmised.:thumbdown  :harhar: :dunno:
  6. Riverside, at first they said that Coco Crisp would be back no later than May 1; now they are saying May 15; who knows what they will be saying next week. I've seen these finger and wrist injuries drag on for months. We CANNOT afford to play Harris in CF what with the other weaknesses in our lineup. See if Pena can play there or let Mohr get the majority of at-bats there. We cannot afford to have more than one hole in our lineup for any length of time. As for DiNardo, sorry. I have seen him pitch a number of times. He is totally unimpressive---no fast ball, little movement on his pitches, high pitch count, and so-so breaking stuff. He is better suited as a situational lefty and nothing more.
  7. Monsterman----I said that THREE times? OOOOPPPPPSSSS!!!!!!! Sorry about that. I have to admit that the Toronto series really upset me. We had a great chance to start the road trip right and had a four run lead in the 8th inning with one of our two horses on the mound only to have that pitcher do a stupid thing that cost us the ballgame a few innings later. Players are supposed to have more smarts than that. Well, I think we can make do with what we have except for centerfield and our fifth starter. There is no way we can have both Harris and Gonzales in that lineup together, and DiNardo just does not have the stuff to be a starter in the big leagues.
  8. 700 Man, let's hope you are right about Bard and Snow and I am wrong. I would certainly prefer that. My reasoning is that Snow was really piss poor with the Giants last year and a few hits from him might go a long way to convince me the guy still has some snap in his bat. Bard? We are stuck with him for better or for worse and I certainly hope it is for the former. Glad we agree on Harris. The guy is a pinch runner and nothing more.:harhar:  :dunno:
  9. Schill, I will be short and to the point with one of my Red Sox buddies on board. Simply put, if we have to stomach Harris in CF, Snow for any time at iB, Bard all season behind the plate when Wake pitches, DiNardo as our fifth starter, and Gonzales for a whole season at short with is worthless bat---we are deep do-do. Epstein has to act and act quick to shore up those spots.
  10. River, I despise the Yankees so this is not a biased post in favor of your team, but you a re right in what you said. My suggestion is that the Red Sox are going to have to upgrade their bench and pitching if they want to go all the way this year. It is utterly ridiculous for Epstein and Francona to even think that DiNardo is the answer to our fifth starter. He can't pitch worth s*** PERIOD. We have an automatic out playing shortstop for us, an automatic out behind the plate everytime Wakefield pitches, and an automatic out at first everytime Youk plays third for us. What's more, now we have a hitless bum like Harris playing CF. Quite a comedown from Damon. Epstein is going to have to get off his ass and address those weaknesses or we Red Sox fans are going to lament another lost season. Sorry my Red Sox colleagues but that is just the way it is. Anyone one of you who thinks guys like DiNardo, Snow, Harris and Bard are going to be assets to our team are living in a trance.
  11. Ksuschi, I loved your post. It showed good insight, too, but you obviously left something out. The Red Sox have to be looking for trade possibilities right now. It is utterly ridiculous for us to suppose we can get by with a bum like Harris in CF and an over-the-hill hasbeen like Snow in our lineup for any length of time. Both have deteriorated beyond hope as hitters, and as it is we have a hitless wonder playing shortstop for us as it is and a worse hittter when Wakefield pitches catching him. The Yankees have a good hitter from one to nine, and unless our pitching is lights out it is going to be hard to overcome that---especially when we have a puss throwing junker like DiNardo as our fifth starter. We are going to have to make a few moves or we might be in a boatload of trouble.
  12. I'm of the firm belief that the Red Sox will not be pinching pennies if they perceive that Roger can be the final piece to a World Series puzzle. The Red Sox will be in on the bidding from start to end and I think Clemens knows that if goes to the Red Sox we will have a "Big Three" that is unmatched anywhere in baseball and a WS might well be in the cards.
  13. Monsterman, right now there is no one available in a trade, but perhaps come July at the trade deadline something may open up. There is also the chance the Dustin Pedroia has a big year at Pawtucket and forces his way onto the team. That boy can hit and field and brings a lot of fire to a team. Of course, we could try and pry Bobby Crosby or Khalil Greene away from Oakland and San Diego, but I won't insult your intelligence by suggesting such a course of action.
  14. He seems headed in that direction now Ksushi. OK, today he got two hits and I would love nothing better to see him get a few more in the Cleveland series and help out in the offense department. The problem is that he just looks terrible at the plate. I saw in both in Spring Training and in Boston and his hitting fundamentals are about as screwy as it can get, and if Papa Jack cannot straighten him out we are in for a tough time. Maybe he will get it together yet and this conversation will have become moot. I sure hope so anyway.
  15. That is where we disagree Monsterman. Any time you have two players in the lineup that can barely hit 200 (three when Bard plays) you have a gigantic black hole, especially when Francona is so reluctant to hit for Gonzales in late innings in a close game. Of course, when your bench players include stiffs like Cora, Snow, Bard and the like it might be very hard to do that, too, so maybe I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. Your argument rests on the assumption that the rest of our lineup is going to hit well, and that is something we cannot count on. Tek looks like he is wearing down, and when we face a left our hottest hitter is on the bench. That augers very poorly down the road.
  16. ksuschi, I will bet that in two months after Gonzales continues to make out in the late innings in key situations to cost us games, and after his batting average is well below 200 you will come to your senses and realize that all his defense does NOT make up for all the times he fails in the clutch to get a hit, or, for that matter, goes game after game without a hit. Simple my man---we cannot afford a 190 hitter in our lineup no matter how good his defense is because sooner or later he is going to take his lack of hitting out on the field with him and then we will really be down on shitpile boulevard. I've seen it happen many times with so called "glovemen" before.
  17. Gonzales and Harris are very weak hitters, have no power and are nothing but eight outs a game between them. In the hitting orientated AL where the DH is used you cannot afford to have a weak hitter in the lineup in a few of your stalwarts are not hitting, and you sure as hell cannot afford to have two of them. That's my point.
  18. Hey 26, no, we are a very large market team but, face it, we cannot compete with the Yankees dollar for dollar. No team can. We can spend but we must spend very wisely, which, of course, does not mean getting stiffs like Harris and Gonzales to pollute our lineup. Look at our bullpen. Better than last year, yes, but still not the type that wins championships. Why? Because we are somewhat limited in our finances to pick up contracts as your team can. As long as Steinbrenner can write checks and give some of those loser teams money he will be able to stay in business.
  19. If Clemens would help us get into the World Series I'd give him anything he wants, and if the rumor is true that the Red Sox are his first choice I'd tell Mr. Epstein not to screw this one up. I want to win.
  20. Crunch, I enjoyed reading your vent. Nice going. Hey listen, it is good to get a different view of things. I still think Douquette was bad for the Red Sox overall and he chased a few good players away, but your hatred of Clemens needed to be brought to the surface. I can see that you think he is a 14-carat phony and a choker in big games and give evidence to back it up, but I still think he would be great for the Red Sox. We do need a fifth starter and I think Roger joining Curt and Josh would really give us a "Big Three" to run the tables on the rest of the AL.
  21. Come off it. I call you Monster Man. If that isn't a form of affection and comaradarie I don't know what is. Of course, you are one of my main men on this board. That is why I like posting here. This is a very underrated board; we have a lot of people here who really know their baseball and it's a pleasure to deal with you guys. In fact, there is only one ******* on this board that I have come across and he knows who he is. Have a great day. Say, BTW, would it sound greedy to want to win tonight as well so we can take the whole three-game series with the Devil Rays and go on the road trip with some real momentum?
  22. Since I wasn't following the Red Sox back in '96 I will accept your take on it since you call Douquette a dumb ass and I do know that for a fact judging from what I have heard from others. 12-6 post season is a damn good record and a 2.37 ERA in the World Series is excellent. That is why I would like to see Roger finish up in Boston. It could put us over the top.
  23. I don't know what post meant HHM but thanks anyway just in case it was in good cheer.
  24. Always good to discuss baseball with you MTB. You've become one of my best friends on this board. Keep them coming.
  25. Rivernator, being a Yankee fan I guess you cannot see my point. To Red Sox fans willing to forgive and forget, as if that is necessary, Roger coming back to Boston would be coming back home to finish up a great career. He doesn't have to. He has certainly had a fabulous one as is. Being selfish for my Red Sox, however, I can see the effect Roger would have on our team. We would become instant favorites to get to another World Series and from there, well, Red Sox Nation celebrates again. Thanks for the post Yank.
